    You’ll set sail aboard Le Ponant and first discover Havana, the vibrant capital. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Old Havana is brimming with buildings of great architectural value and narrow streets down which to wander. The seafront is also ideal for a stroll, along the Malecón, a favourite gathering place for Cubans.

    Your yacht will then set sail for the stunning Cienfuegos Bay. This elegant city was established in the early 19th century and its first settlers were French. Its beautiful architecture blends modern, neoclassical, and influences from the Spanish Age of Enlightenment.

    From Casilda, visit Trinidad and Valle de Los Ingenios, whose very beautiful buildings reflect the former glory days of the sugar industry and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

    End your trip with the discovery of the beautiful colonial houses in Santiago de Cuba, your disembarkation port.

      Formalities

      • The information below is current but subject to change at any time without advance notice from government authorities. Please consult your respective government agencies for visa and health information.

      • Passport valid for at least six (6) months beyond the completion of your trip. Passport must contain at least two completely clear, blank, unused visa pages for each visa required, not including any amendment pages. Visa pages with stains or ink from other pages in the passport are not usable. Guests who deviate from the scheduled embarkation or disembarkation port should research the foreign entry requirements for the port country. Due to government regulations, regrettably, Ponant will have to deny boarding to any guest who fails to obtain the appropriate travel documentation for this trip.

      • Warning about the use of drones: the use of drones aboard PONANT ships, whether they are sailing at sea, at a port of call or anchored, is strictly forbidden. The use of drones on land in the Arctic and Antarctic regions is also strictly forbidden by international polar regulations. In other regions, it may be possible to use drones on land if permission has been obtained from the relevant authorities of each country and each region travelled through, as well as a pilot’s licence that should be obtained from your home country. Passengers are responsible for obtaining these permits; they should be able to present them at all times. Passengers who do not obtain these authorisations expose themselves to the risk of legal proceedings.

      • Cuba: A Cuba Tourist card is mandatory for this cruise, it will be sent with your cruise documents and charged onboard (25€ subject to change).

        Proof of medical insurance is required. Different formalities apply for passengers who were born in Cuba, even if they are of different citizenship now.

      Before your embarkation

      Day 1 – La Havana

      Meet and greet at the airport arrival hall in La Havana. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local representative off the PONANT selected flight.

      Expect long waiting time for luggage delivery at the airport.

      You will be transferred to your hotel the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski.

      Dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.

      Day 2 – La Havana

      Discover the western part of Cuba and enjoy an entire day in the Pinar del Río Province (approximately 2hours driving)

      Pinar del Río is one of the last major cities to have been founded by the Spanish in Cuba. The area is also the tobacco plantation centre.

      With its unusual mogotes (rounded limestone hills) lined up along the plains, the Pinar del Río landscape is one of the most beautiful on the island. The plains, where Cuban cowboys roam, are surrounded by mountain chains and huge expanses of tropical forest.

      Visit the Casa del Veguero where you will discover the tobacco plantations and leaf drying. Continue to the Indian Grotto, where an underwater river flows. You will get aboard boats for a cruise along the waters of this mogote.

      Lunch will then be served in a local restaurant.

      Continue to the Prehistoric Wall and discover a painting made on a 120-metre-high wall that shows the geological evolution of the Sierra de los Organos region. This work was initiated in 1961 by a Cuban artist, Leovigildo Gonzales (a pupil of Frida Kahlo’s husband) at the request of Fidel Castro.

      Discover the panorama from Los Jazmines and enjoy magnificent views over the valley before leaving for Havana.

      Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.

      Day 3 – La Havana

      In the afternoon, follow your guide in the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway.

      Departure for Lookout Farm (Finca La Vigia), in the village of San Francisco de Paula. Visit of the Hemingway Museum, a colonial-style house where the writer lived between 1939 and 1960. During a walk around the house, you will discover the writer’s personal effects. It was here that he wrote The Old Man and the Sea in 1951, a novel that he dedicated to the Cuban people.

      Return to Old Havana. Panoramic tour of the city with stops in the main squares to take photos.

      A UNESCO World Heritage Site, La Havana has a great colonial past with architecture as flamboyant as the spirit of its inhabitants. Music is a very important element in Cuban life, it resonates on every street corner. The warm colours of the buildings as well as the kindness of the inhabitants make this city a place of authenticity.

      Please note:

      The convertible peso is the CUC and is the currency used for tourist purposes. You can do money exchange in banks or currency exchange locations known as CADECA.

      Once you are leaving Cuba, you will find banks and CADECA’s in the airport where you can change your CUC for your original currency.

      The clothes must be light. It is advisable to wear cotton fabrics, t-shirts, shorts and preferably sandals.
