Located to the south-east of London, Portsmouth is one of the three most important military ports in England. This maritime tradition takes shape in the Historic Dockyard, the home of Portsmouth's arsenal, where emblematic ships are to be found, including HMS Victory, captained by Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. The home town of Charles Dickens, and the adopted home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the celebrated adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Portsmouth is not short of attractions with its parks, sea fronts and city walls. The Spinnaker Tower, taking the form of a great sail and soaring from 170 metres into the air, is one of the highest monuments in the United Kingdom and offers impressive views of the city.

Located on the Flemish coastline, half way between France and the Netherlands, the elegant city of Ostend is a favourite summer destination for Belgians. You can enjoy the “queen of beaches”, a stretch of fine white sand punctuated by breakwaters, covered by the North Sea at high tide. The seafront boasts sumptuous facades from the Belle Epoque, such as Villa Maritza, which stands witness to this seaside town’s rich past. Art amateurs will enjoy the excellent Kunstmuseumaan Zee, where a retrospective of Belgian art dating from 1830 is on display.

Lying at the mouth of the Harinxma canal in the Frise province of the Netherlands, Harlingen has always had a very close relationship with the sea. Once a whale fishing centre and today a port specialised in shrimp fishing, its dynamism has transformed it into a modern city which also offers travellers museums and sites of interest. The local museum, the Hannemahuis, is housed in an 18th Century dwelling and presents a collection of regional furniture and objects retracing the history of the city. The lighthouse and the city hall with their typically Dutch architecture also deserve a visit.

You will sail through the world’s busiest artificial waterway. The Kiel Canal, some one hundred kilometres in length, links the North Sea to the Baltic, via the Jutland Peninsula. Discover the port town of Kiel, where a number of historical monuments are visible around the agglomeration. One of the highlights is a visit to the Protestant church of Saint Nicolas, a very beautiful gothic-style building. Further on, in a bourgeois manor from the 17th Century, the town’s museum will tell you more about the history of Kiel. Then you will be able to take a stroll along the shores of the Kleine Kiel (Small Kiel), a haven of greenery and an ideal walk for nature lovers.

Connected to the far eastern side of Sealand island, a few kilometres away from the Swedish coasts, Copenhagen offers you the high colour of Scandinavian capitals. You can discover the city's riches that weaves through the canal networks through the historical districts of Christiansborg and Nyhavn. Many palaces provide an apercu of Danish history. For eating, you can try out the smorebrod, a traditional dish composed of several kinds of smoked fish.

This old Hanseatic city lies to the west coast of Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic sea. Pass through the spectacular Visby fortifications at Dalmans gate and visit the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll discover the grand Visby homes of rich merchants as well as the lovely low wooden houses in the little cobbled streets. Don’t miss Saint Mary’s cathedral with its octagonal steeples, as well as Powder tower along the fortifications. Make sure you stop over in one of the rose-adorned cafés; indeed roses abound in this town where you can taste one of the island’s specialities, namely saffron pancakes with red fruit.

The capital of Sweden occupies an archipelago in the east of the country at the junction of Mälar Lake and the Baltic sea. In Gamla stan, meaning “old town” in Swedish, you can stroll at your leisure in picturesque medieval streets until you reach the majestic Royal Palace. On the green island of Djurgården, you can visit several very different kinds of cultural centres: the Vasa museum is dedicated to a 17th century three-mast, the ecomuseum of Skansen presents traditional customs, and the ABBA museum is dedicated to the legendary pop group. For a fantastic, all-encompassing view of Stockholm, you can take a ride in SkyView, a glass-encased sphere gondola that takes you to the top of the world’s largest building, the Ericsson Globe, a Stockholm landmark.

The novelist, poet, journalist, musicologist and radio and television presenter Alain Duault has been sharing his passion for and knowledge of classical music for more than 30 years. Considered to be one of the greatest opera specialists in France he is now President of the Prix Pelléas jury, and has been made an Officier de la Légion d’Honneur and Commandeur des Arts et Lettres.
Alain Duault studied literature, philosophy and psycho-analysis in Paris, then musicology and piano. His first TV appearance was as a guest of Bernard Pivot for his book of poems, Colorature. This led to a number of radio programmes dedicated to classical music, notably on RTL, the radio station where Alain Duault would be “Mr Classical Music” for 22 years, before joining Radio Classique with daily slots until 2018. A role that he also took on for the France 3 television channel, presenting a number of exceptional programmes (masterclasses with Ruggero Raimondi in the Salle Gaveau, Musiques en fête at the Chorégies d’Orange festival…).
In 1999, he conceived and presented Intégrale Chopin (225 works, 60 pianists), broadcast on France 3. Then in 2001, he wrote and performed an ambitious and very popular show, Verdi, une passion, un destin (with Jean Piat and 250 musicians). In the wake of this success, he wrote and performed two other shows: Victor Hugo, la légende d’un siècle in 2002 and Rencontre avec George Sand (with Marie-Christine Barrault) in 2004 and 2005.
Alain Duault also puts his writing skills to the service of classical music. The author of a number of books, including Dans la peau de Maria Callas, (Le Passeur Éditeur, 2014, pocket edition, 2017), Dictionnaire amoureux illustré de l’Opéra (Plon Gründ, 2016), Ce léger rien des choses qui ont fui, poetry (Gallimard, 2017), he also writes editorials for Classica.

After a season marked by his appearances unanimously greeted in the title role of the Barbiere di Siviglia on the Opera of Paris and on the Festival Rossini de Pesaro, Florian Sempey finds in 2015-2016 the same role, in the Opera of Rome. He also finds Marc Minkowski and the role of the Count, for a resumption in the Royal Opera of Versailles of the production of the Nozze di Figaro, created this summer in Drottningholms Slottsteater, in Sweden. He makes his German debuts in Deutsche Oper Berlin, by embodying Alfonse XI in La Favorite, alongside Elina Garanca, having been Momus, in Platée, at the Opéra de Paris and before embodying Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, at the Opéra Grand Avignon. In concert we hear him accompanied with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France for La Jacquerie, of Lalo, the Orchestre national de France for the Messa di Gloria, of Puccini, the Orchestre national de Bordeaux Aquitaine, for the Christmas concert of Radio classique and the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, for Gounod's Saint-François d'Assise.
At the same time as his piano studies, Florian Sempey begins his training of lyric singing in the class of Françoise Detchnenique at the Academy of Libourne. Having been finalist of the singing competition of " Les Amis du Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux » ", he joins into 2007 the Conservatoire de Bordeaux in the class of Maryse Castets.
He gains the next year the first prize « Opera » as well as the « Prix du public » of the singing competition « Les Amis du Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux ». Afterward he will be finalist also of the competition S'sentiels of Nantes in 2009, semi-finalist of the international Competition of the Opera of Marseille under Rolando Villazón's presidency and named in 2013 in the category " Revelation Opera singer " in « Les Victoires de la Musique classique. »
He joins for 2 years the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Paris in 2010 and the following seasons see him appearing in Rigoletto, Alceste, Madama Butterfly, Street Scenes, L'heure espagnole, the Finta Giardiniera and la Traviata.
He makes at the age of 24 years his debuts on the stage of the National Opera of Bordeaux, in the role of Papageno and will return there then regularly, embodying the roles of Moralès in Carmen, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, Pollux in Castor et Pollux, Figaro of the Nozze di Figaro.
The DNO of Amsterdam recently welcomed him for his rôle debut in Valentin, in Faust. He besides participated in the productions of Le Mage in the Opera de Saint-Etienne, Dardanus with the ensemble Pygmalion, on the stages of the National Opera of Bordeaux and the Royal Opera of Versailles for the role of Anténor, and in Fledermaus , at l'Opéra-Comique de Paris, interpreting Doctor Falke.
In concert he recently appeared in the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, of Mahler, beside l'Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and Carmina Burana, with the Choir of the Orchestre de Paris.
He also occurred in Cracow in role of Julien de Medici in Pierre de Medici, in the Festival of tLes Nuits lyriques de Sanxay for Carmen, Traviata and Madama Butterfly, as well as within the framework of a partnership between Paris Opéra Compétition and Young Artist Program of Bolshoï, on the stage of prestigious Moscow theater and to the Imperial Theater of Compiègne.
Florian Sempey won the « Prix Carpeaux » of the Opéra Garnier in 2012.

Born in Albi, Gabrielle Philiponet was formed as a flutist before entering the Conservatory of Valencienne in 2003 where she was taught at the vocal class of Daniel Ottevaere who still is her teacher nowadays. Two years later, she graduated with distinction and worked at the same time on her repertoire together with Janine Reiss in Paris and David Miller in Brussels. In 2005, she was admitted to the opera studio of the Chapelle Musciale Reine Elisabeth (CMRE) under the direction of José Van Dam and in collaboration with the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. She participated in master classes by Tom Krause, Anne-Marie Fontaine, Helmut Deutsch, Jocelyne Dienst, David Miller and José Van Dam. She received her diploma from the CMRE with the highest distinctions.
In 2004, she was to be heard at the international singing competition in Vivonne where she received the prize for young talents and, in 2006, the first prize 'Grande Dame'. In the same year, she was awarded the first prize at the singing competition in Béziers. At the international competition in Marmande, she was accorded the young talent prize in 2006 and the special jury prize in 2007. Also in 2007, she received the 3rd prize in the category of women at the international competition of the Opéra de Marseille, and in 2008, she was awarded the 6th prize at the prestigious Concours Reine Elisabeth.
She has performed the roles of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Opéra national de Lorraine, Musetta (La Bohème) at the Opéra de Marseille, Despina (Così fan tutte) at the Opéra de Toulon, Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) on tour at Reims, Vichy, Montellier, Tours, Nancy, Nice, Saint-Etienne, Marseille, Bordeaux and at the Capitole de Toulouse, Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers) at the Opéra National de Montpellier, Marie (Les Mousquetaires au Couvent) and Mi (Le Pays du Sourire) at the Théâtre de Tourcoing, Rosita (Un Mari à la Porte) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liverpool and le Feu, la Princesse and le Rossignol (L'Enfant et les Sortilèges) with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She was also La Fée (Cendrillon by Massenet) at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Lauretta (Gianni Schicci) with the Belgian National Orchestra and Parasha (Mavra by Stravinsky) in Fribourg. Her interpretation of Magda (La Rondine) at the Opéra national de Lorraine in 2012 was a further step towards the lyric repertoire.
The season 2013/14 was highlighted by her debut in La Traviata (title role) touring in Spain. In 2014/15 she performed her first Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in Spain as well as her first Antonia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) at the Toulon Opera and her first Oscar (Un ballo in maschera) at the Opéra de Massy. During the summer she performed Violetta again on tour throughout France. Her plans in 2015/16 include La Traviata at the New Orleans Opera for her US debut, The Bat (Rosalinde) at the Avignon Opera as well as Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at the Angers Nantes Opera. Sie will also sing her first Desdemona (Otello) in concert with José Cura.
In concert, she has recently sung Dvorak’s Stabat Mater in Seville, Essouira (Festival les Alizés) and at the Festival d'Arromanches, Mozart’s Great Mass in c minor as well as in Sémiramis by Catel (role of Azema) at the Festival de Radio-France et Montpellier. Furthermore, she sang the role of Emirène in Adrien by Méhul at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest, the role of Ione in Le Dernier Jour de Pompéi by Joncières and Lilia in Herculaneum by David at the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice as well as Haydn's The Creation with the Orchestre d'Auvergne.
Gabrielle Philiponet has worked together with conductors such as Alain Altinouglu, Nicolas André, José Cura, Roberto Fores-Veses, Paul Goodwin, Stefan Klingele, Kent Nagano, Gunter Neuhold, Hervé Niquet, Vasily Petrenko, Michel Piquemal, György Vashegyi and Pascal Verrot.
Her discography includes among others Scène de Chasse by René Koering (une Amazone) for Universal Music, Sémiramis by Catel (Azéma) for Glossa, Un mari à la porte (Rosita) by Offenbach with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra as well as works by Max d'Ollone, Dimitri by Victorin Joncières and Adrien by Etienne-Nicolas Méhul.

Clémentine MARGAINE graduated from the Paris Conservatory of Music with top honours, and in 2011 joined the Deutsche Oper Berlin Company playing roles such as Carmen, Princess Clarice (Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges), Isaura (Tancredi, Rossini), Maddalena (Rigoletto, Verdi), Frederica (Luisa Miller, Verdi) and Anna (The Trojans, Berlioz).
Her career has developed in France, Germany (Berlin and Munich), Italy (Rome) and in the United States where she made a remarkable debut in Dallas in the title role of Carmen directed by Emmanuel Villaume.
She also recently made her debut in the role of Marguerite in the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s production of La Damnation de Faust directed by Donald Runnicles.
New roles to come include Dulcinea (Don Quixote, Massenet) in Chicago, Sara (Roberto Devereux, Donizetti) in Bilbao and Zayda (Dom Sébastien, Donizetti) in Toulouse.
Lied and melody have played a central role in her career, hence her many recitals with pianist Emmanuel Christien and her sister Sarah Margaine. Of note in her repertoire are some Mahler cycles such as Knaben Wunderhorn (Deutsche Oper Berlin, conducted by D. Runnicles), Das Lied von der Erde, Lieder dines fahrenden Gesellen (Colmar Festival 2011), and Kindertotenlieder (Dijon auditorium 2010).
She regularly performs in oratorios. 2015 will see her in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Marek Janowski; in Budapest for a Verdi requiem directed by Pinchas Steinberg; and again in Lisbon in a Mozart requiem conducted by Michel Corboz.
In 2015 she makes her debut as Didon in Berlioz’s The Trojans at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, as well as in Samson and Delilah (Delilah) for the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2016 she debuts with the Paris Opera and the New York Metropolitan as Carmen.
In 2011, Clémentine MARGAINE won the Queen Elisabeth competition and was named ‘révélation lyrique’ of the year in France’s Victoires de la Musique awards.
Born in France of Vietnamese origin, Philippe Do made his debut with the Lyon National Opera. He sings on the most prestigious opera stages of the world : Scala of Milan, Bolchoï of Moscow, Marinsky of St-Petersburg, Lincoln Center in New-York, Opéra-Comique and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Zurich Opera, Grand-Théâtre of Geneva, Capitole of Toulouse, Venice La Fenice, Vienna Volksoper, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Festspielhaus of Baden-Baden, Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto, Macerata Sferisterio, Chorégies d’Orange…
Philippe Do is a very much sought-after singer for « the beauty of his lyric tenor voice with its refined mezza-voce, and the purity of the style » (Alan Blyth in Opera) especially in the French and the belcanto repertoire.
Recent performances include Thérèse and La Navarraise by Massenet in Wexford, Pelléas et Mélisande by Debussy in Prague, Anna Bolena (with Edita Gruberova), Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux by Donizetti in Ostrava, Il Mondo della luna by Haydn in Monte-Carlo, Faust in Mainz, Roméo et Juliette in Venice, Les Pêcheurs de Perles by in Verona, St-Petersburg and Moscow, Carmen in Zurich and Riga…
His rich discography includes a.o. Carmen (DVD Dynamics), Clovis et Clotilde by Bizet (Naxos, Editor’s choice de Gramophon, Guru by Laurent Petitgirard (Naxos, Choc de Classica).
Philippe Do holds an MBA from ESSEC Business School in Paris, and is a graduate from the Mannes College of Music in New York. He won several international competitions, including the prestigious “Toti dal Monte” competition in 2001. He is studying with legendary Mirella Freni.

Nicolas Dautricourt, who is appreciated for his « sensitivity and passionate manner », is particularly fond of chamber music, which he plays alongside many inspiring artists, and keenly interested in jazz, he works regularly with top players such as Jean-Marie Ecay, Nelson Veras, Jean-Philippe Viret, Jean-Marc Jafet, Antoine Hervé, Dominique Fillon, Pascal Schumacher, as well as the accordionist Richard Galliano as a member of the Tangaria Quartet the Piazzolla Forever project, in such festivals as Jazz à Vienne, Marciac, Sud-Tyroler Jazz Festival, San Javier, Copenhagen, Athens...
Finalist and prize-winner of numerous international violin competitions, such as the Henryk Wieniawski Competition in Poznan, the Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade, the Rodolfo Lipizer in Gorizia and the Gian-Battista Viotti in Vercelli Competitions, he has studied with Philip Hirschhorn, Miriam Fried, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Gérard Poulet and Jean Mouillère among others, and became in 2007 artistic director of « Les Moments Musicaux de Gerberoy». He plays a magnificent instrument by Antonio Stradivarius (Cremona, 1713), the « Château Fombrauge », on a generous loan from Bernard Magrez.

She is scrupulous about observing repeats and her use of ornamentation is elegant and understated. The fluidity and unself-conscious physicality of Gaillard's playing keeps the listener aware that, except for the preludes, this is sunny, dance-based music.” So wrote the critic Stephen Eddins (Allmusic) of her recent Bach recording (2011), while back in 2007 The Times hailed her “wizard fingering, big lyrical heart and kaleidoscope of colours”.
An insatiable curiosity, a taste for risk, an immoderate appetite for the whole of the concertante cello repertoire, complete disregard of limits and petty quarrels: these are no doubt the features that have always set this brilliant Franco-Swiss musician apart.
Voted ‘Revelation: Solo Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2003, she has since appeared in recital at many prestigious venues.
Ophélie Gaillard is a child of Baroque. In her studies she specialised from a very early age in the early and classical cellos and was soon sharing the stage with Christophe Rousset, Emmanuelle Haïm and Amaryllis, before founding in 2005 Pulcinella, a ‘collective’ of virtuoso soloists with a passion for performance on period instruments. The recordings devoted to Vivaldi (Cello Sonatas and Concertos), Boccherini (Cello Concertos) and Bach (Arias and Cantatas with violoncello piccolo) reaped excellent ratings and several awards.
In 1998 she was the winner of the Leipzig Bach Competition, then in 2000 she recorded Bach’s complete Cello Suites for the Ambroisie label to great critical acclaim. She renewed that exploit in 2011, this time for the Aparté label, and received maximum ratings from Diapason, Strad Magazine, etc.
Ophélie Gaillard also performs modern and contemporary works. She has made successful recordings of Britten’s complete Cello Suites and Piano Sonatas with Vanessa Wagner and of Pierre Bartholomée’s Oraison for solo cello.
The Romantic repertoire is not neglected: she has successfully recorded the complete cello works of Schumann, Fauré, Chopin and Brahms.
She appears as a soloist with the Orchestre de Cannes-Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur, the Polish Radio Orchestra (under Gabriel Chmura), the Orchestre de Picardie (Edmon Colomer), the European Camerata, the Franz Liszt Orchestra of Budapest, the New Japan Philarmonic under the baton of Werner Andreas Alpert, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, the Romanian Radio Orchestra.
Greatly in demand as a teacher, she gives master-classes in Asia and in Latin and Central America. In 2010 she was a member of the jury for the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
Her solo album Dreams, made with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, proved to be a great public success.
She is heard regularly on radio (France Musique, France Culture, France Inter, Radio Classique, Espace 2, BBC Radio 3) and often appears on television (France 2, Mezzo, Arte).
Ophélie Gaillard plays a cello by Francesco Goffriller (1737), generously loaned to her by CIC, and also a Flemish violoncello piccolo (anonymous).
She has just been appointed Professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva.

Born 1959, Yves Henry studied piano with Pierre Sançan at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) where he achieved no fewer than seven First Prizes. He then worked for three years with Aldo Ciccolini before winning the first Robert Schumann International Competition Grand Prix in Zwickau which launched his career.
Chopin occupies a prominent place in the life of Yves Henry, who is also a Schumann specialist. Member of the Chopin Institute in Warsaw’s programme committee for the Chopin Bicentenary in 2010, he received the ‘Gloria Artis’ award from the Polish state for his contribution to the Year of Chopin in France. He also produced a book/CD entitled Les Étés de Frédéric Chopin à Nohant and in January 2011 succeeded Alain Duault as President of the Nohant Festival Chopin, having been its artistic director for 15 years.
From his recent discography we should mention his Liszt recital in 2011; a two-CD box set in 2014 dedicated to re-enacting Chopin’s last concert in Paris (Choix France Musique), followed in 2015 by a Liszt/Schumann/Chopin recording on Erard 1844 and Pleyel 1837 pianos. In 2017, his Orchestral Piano Works album, including his own transcriptions, appeared in the autumn in a four-CD box set presenting all the works of Chopin composed in Nohant. In 2018 he produced a Debussy CD in Japan and in 2019 will record all Chopin’s Mazurkas on a piano from that era (Pleyel 1837) and a CD dedicated to Robert and Clara Schumann.
A renowned instructor, Yves Henry teaches at the CNSM in Paris and is regularly invited to hold Master Classes at universities in the USA, Japan and China. He is on numerous international competition juries (World Piano Master in Monte-Carlo, Dvorak Piano Competition, Robert Schumann International Competition in Zwickau, Chopin International Competition in Warsaw, the Kawai International Competition in Tokyo) and is an honorary member of the Japan Piano Teachers Association.
In January 2010, Yves Henry was made Officier des Arts et des Lettres.
