Your journey aboard Le Lapérouse will start in Darwin. You will then sail to the Kei Islands, in the heart of the Malukus, to discover a peaceful paradise of stunning white-sand beaches.
Then, you will sail to the heart of Triton Bay. Located within a protected marine environment in the middle of the Coral Triangle, you will enjoy an unforgettable zodiac cruise through the spectacular rainforest-capped karst islands.
Le Lapérouse will continue to sail in the Indonesian province of West Papua to allow you to witness the superb natural site of Kitikiti Waterfall surrounded by lush nature.
In the Maluku Islands, dubbed the Spice Islands, you will explore the island of Banda Neira, which was shaped by Dutch and Portuguese influences.
After a stopover in the fabulous Barat Daya Islands, you will head for Kalabahi. This authentic destination in the Alor archipelago provides the opportunity to interact with local people who have preserved their traditional practices and customs.
You will then head to Flores and the city of Maumere before visiting your final destination - Komodo National Park. This wild and isolated island is home to the famous Komodo dragons.

Expedition programmes include activities such as zodiac outings and landings (sometimes with "wet landings"), moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by your expedition team of naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, outings and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain and the Expedition Leader may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. In remote areas, please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is extremely expensive. Without adequate medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid with your personal funds. During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

PRECAUTIONS:
In your hand luggage, remember to bring any medicines that you need, and possibly a small spare bag of toiletries (in case of delay in the delivery of your baggage by the airline). Remember to always have your travel documents with you in case you need them: hotel vouchers, cruise vouchers, return flight tickets... Never leave them in your hold luggage.
All our cabins have a safe. We recommend not to go ashore with valuable jewellery.

Diving - Expedition Cruise
Supervision of the dives
Your dives will be led by your PONANT instructor. He will take care of your safety and that all goes smoothly. On some diving sites, as in natural reserves or if the local regulations require it, a local guide will escort the diving.
Level required for scuba diving on this cruise
The minimum level required for scuba diving on this cruise is 2 star CMAS or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent). The certification card, the diving log book and a recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to our main diving instructor.
Process of the dives (certified divers)
The instructor reserves the right to check divers’ ability for maximum safety. As we will dive in remote places, the dives will be done without decompression stop. A safety stop of 3 minutes at 5 metres will be mandatory. The depth that can be reached will depend on the certification of the divers:
- For those with PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate (or equivalent), the maximum depth can be up to 25 metres.
- If two PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or equivalent) wish to dive together independently, they must have a briefing first. They must have dive computers and are allowed to go to a maximum depth of 20 metres.
Duration of the dives
The diving activity lasts from 2 to 3 hours, which includes the journey to the diving site and the diving. This duration may vary according to the site, the level of divers, weather conditions and the number of participants. For experienced divers, the duration of dives varies between 35 and 60 minutes depending on the site, the diver’s experience and consumption.

Fauna and flora of the Pacific ocean
The fauna of the Pacific ocean is very varied. During the various dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as napoleon fish, racoonbutterfly fish, and pelagic fauna such as manta rays, gray reef sharks, dolphin fish, as well as endemic wildlife such as different soft corals.

The unique culture of the Alorese continues among the Takpala indigenous group who have preserved their traditional architecture and ceremonies. The island of Alor is also known as the island of a Thousand Moko’s. The Moko is a small bronze kettledrum which is believed to have originated from the Dong Son culture of Vietnam. However, it remains a mystery as to how these prehistoric Dong Son drums arrived in Alor. Local legend says that the Moko’s were discovered buried in the ground, and indeed mokos are still being uncovered today. Diving

You will depart the hotel by coach for a panoramic tour of Darwin. Located in Australia's Northern Territory, also known as the "Top End", Darwin is a beautiful tropical city, where over 50 different cultures live and work side by side.
Discover Darwin's rich history and culture and learn about Darwin's role during World War II as you see its many historic wartime landmarks. You will drive past St Marys Cathedral, travel up to and along the Esplanade, the Parliament House, the Old Court House, the Anglican Cathedral. Pass Bicentennial Park, and the Old Town hall ruins.
You will then be transferred to the port of Darwin, to embark on board your ship.

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
Throughout the day, you will explore the rich cultural heritage of the Balinese people, and gain valuable insight into their day-to-day life, religion, and traditions on this full-day tour of Bali. One of 33 provinces of the Indonesian archipelago, Bali has a population of 4.2 million, of which 8.3% are Hindu. This island nation is inspired by a sense of spiritual enlightenment that shapes the lifestyles and culture of its people.
Board your motor coach at the pier of Benoa, then relax and enjoy the scenery the of southern and central parts of the island as you make your way to your first stop: the small village of Cangi, situated at the Regency of Gianyar.
Upon your arrival, you’ll be greeted and warmly welcomed by local villagers wearing their traditional dress. Then, you’ll be joined by your Tour Guide who will walk you to the village square, which is surrounded by the school, Balinese Hindu Temple, and the village’s institution buildings. You’ll begin your visit with an up-close observation of the Elementary School, where local children study, and you’ll have a good opportunity to interact with the students. Following this delightful visit, you’ll explore all around the Customary Village of Cangi, visiting Lembaga Perkreditan Rakyat (LPD), a financial institution with two unique characteristics: the institution is owned and governed by the Customary Village (Desa Adat/Desa Pekraman) while remaining fully integrated into Balinese culture. Then, proceed next door to visit the Village Health Centre (PUSKESMAS). It is a useful place, allowing the local communities to have access to their medical treatments in this modern age. Then, you’ll make your way to the final site in this customary village: a beautiful village temple, called Pura Puseh, and its remaining cultural heritage. The 11th. century temple features a grand complex of shrines that face a separate, large communal hall from where most visitors start their visit.
Refreshments will be served at the village meeting hall located right in front of the temple. You can watch while the locals of the community make a local snack and typical Balinese dish called Sate Lilit (minced meat spiced and wrapped around a bamboo or lemongrass stick handle and grilled over charcoal). You can also enjoy several kinds of Balinese cakes made locally. You’ll have the opportunity to taste and enjoy your refreshments as well as interact with the locals and watch as they make a religious offering consisting of coconut leaves and colourful flowers, called Canang Sari, as a kind of thanksgiving prayer praising God.
After finishing your visit to this customary village, rejoin the motor coach and proceed to the local restaurant located in the Ubud area, where your lunch will be served.
Then, you’ll make your way to the last stop of the day, at the small village of Blahbatuh to visit Sudi Dance School.
Upon your arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by local children wearing their traditional dress. Then, you’ll be escorted to the lobby area where a refreshing drink awaits. And you’ll have the opportunity to see first-hand how the local children learn traditional Balinese dances, under the tutelage of a professional and master dancer. As it is an important part of their cultural heritage, all Balinese children hope to master the dances. Before leaving Sudi Dance School behind, you’ll be entertained with a traditional dance performance from the students, while you enjoy a refreshing drink and local Balinese snacks.
After conclusion of your memorable visit, you will then be transferred to Ngurah Rai international airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight (approximately two-hour drive from Sudi Dance School).

BALINESE CULTURAL HERITAGE (2 NIGHTS)

Take advantage of two days designed to give you the perfect opportunity to explore the historic site and rich cultural heritage of the local inhabitants of the countryside and gain valuable insight into their day-to-day life, religion and traditions. This programme will be an ideal prelude to your cruise.
Day 1 – Benoa/Eastern part of the island/Ubud
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
You will depart from the pier of Benoa, where a leisurely morning drive will bring you to the eastern part of the island. You’ll first be transported to the small town of Klungkung/Semarapura to visit Kerhta Gosa, the old court of justice. This building served as a place for the king to solve problems concerning security, prosperity, and justice for the Kingdom of Bali. It was not known exactly who the founder was, but according to the Candra Sengkala (a way of writing the year by using picture of animal or plant which represents certain figures), it had been built at least by the year of Caka, somewhere between 1622 and 1700 AD, when Dewa Agung Jambe governed the kingdom of Semarapura.
Leaving Kertha Gosa behind, your journey will continue toward the eastern part of the island to visit Tenganan Ancient Village. This village is very famous on the island, referred to, in cultural literature, as Tenganan Pegringsingan. The lifestyle of the local community is very unique. It is an example of the Bali Aga Village cultures (Hindu Prehistoric), and differs greatly from the other countryside villages in the plains of Bali.
Following your visit, enjoy a short, scenic drive to a local restaurant, located on the beach of Candidasa, for lunch.
After lunch, board your motor coach and proceed to the coastal village of Karangasem to visit Taman Ujung Water Palace.
The Balinese often call it Taman Ujung Sukasada, and it was built by the royal king of Karangasem in 1901.The first pool to be completed is called the “Kolam Dirah”. This pool was originally used to drown those judged to practice black magic. In 1909, the King of Karangasem hired Dutch architect Van Den Hentz and Chinese architect Loto Ang to improve on Dirah pond and convert it into a sanctuary for resting.
As your tour draws to a close, and before returning to Maya Ubud Resorts, you’ll make your way to the small town of Karangasem to visit the Royal Palace of Puri Agung Karangasem. Once the seat of government, the royal palace in Karangasem was built in the 19th century by King Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem. It features many different characteristics found in Balinese houses at that time.
After concluding your visit, your motor coach will bring you directly to Maya Ubud Resorts, approximately a two-hour drive from Karangasem Royal Palace.
Once you arrive at the hotel (Maya Ubud Resorts), check-in, and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure to relax and freshen up before dinner.

Day 2 - Ubud/Central part of the island /Ubud
After breakfast, proceed to the hotel lobby to meet your guide to depart for a full-day tour to visit several interesting places situated at the Central part of the island.
Board your motor coach at the hotel, for a leisurely morning drive to the village of Kukuh located nearby Kintamani and Bayung Gede to observe coffee plantation. Upon arrival, a guided walk through coffee plantation pathways to explore and observe first hand a variety of coffee and other tropical spices. Your journey continues on to the small village of Bayung Gede, a traditional village with very unique customs. In this village, you’ll find the Setra Ari-ari (or placenta graveyard). Here, placentas are encased in coconuts and hung from the branches of the Bukak trees, forming a sacred garden. The residents of Bayung Gede village have been following this unique custom for centuries. According to local legends, the tradition is as old as the village itself.
After your visit, your journey will continue to the village of Batur to visit Ulun Danu Batur temple, the second most important temple complex in Bali, after Besakih Temple, the “Mother Temple”. The temple is dedicated to Dewi Bhatari Ullun Danu, Goddess of lakes and rivers. “Ulun Danu” literally translates to “head of the lake”. Until 1926 Ulun Danu Batur Temple and the village were located down in the caldera, at the foot of Batur volcano. After the volcano erupted in 1926, both the village and the temple were destroyed, except for the most important shrine, an 11-tiered Meru dedicated to Dewi Bhatari Ulun Danu. The villagers moved to the highest and oldest rim of the caldera, where they rebuilt their village and temple. Actually, the temple of Ulun Danu Batur is a complex of nine different temples, containing in total 285 shrines and pavilions dedicated to the Gods and Goddesses of water, agriculture, holy-springs, arts, and crafts.
Leaving Ulun Danu Batur Temple behind, proceed to the local restaurant and enjoy lunch accompanied with breath-taking views over Mount Batur and Batur Lake, weather permitting. Clouds and fog are common, even during the dry season, due to its elevation at approximately 1,717 metres above sea level.
As your tour draws to a close, and before returning to the hotel (Maya Ubud Resorts), you’ll make your way to the last destination. Located in a village on the slope of Mount Agung, visit Besakih Temple, often referred to as Bali’s “Mother Temple”. Besakih Temple is a grand complex of at least 86 clan temples and shrines on the south-western slopes of Mount Agung. At least 70 celebrations take place at Besakih every year, as each shrine has its own anniversary. Besakih is considered to be the biggest and holiest of Bali’s temples.
After conclusion of your memorable visit, your motor coach then brings you directly to Maya Ubud Resorts, commencing approximately two-hour drive.
The rest of the day is free at leisure in time to relax before the time comes for dinner.

Day 3 – Ubud/Denpasar
After breakfast, and luggage collection, time at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel’s facilities depending on your flight schedule. Official check-out until 12 am.
You will then be transferred to the airport (about 2,5-hour drive) in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
