PONANT invites you on a 9-day cruise between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, departing from Dubai. Come aboard Le Bougainville, and set off to discover the treasures of the desert of the Arabian Peninsula.
From fascinating and futuristic Dubai, your ship will take you towards Abu Dhabi, the booming capital of the United Arab Emirates. You will be able to make the most of this day to visit the fantastic new Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and the Grand Mosque, one of the largest in the world.
You will then stop off at the nature reserve of the island of Sir Bani Yas, a veritable wildlife sanctuary, before setting sail for Doha in Qatar. In this city blending tradition and modernity, next to the most recent skyscrapers, you will discover a superb museum home to treasures of Islamic art, and the sparkling colours of the Waqif souk which brings the heart of the old town to life.
Le Bougainville will then drop anchor in Khasab, the gateway to the sublime “fjords of Arabia” that you will be able to explore aboard a traditional boat, before arriving in the Gulf of Oman.
Fujairah lies between the Persian Gulf, lush mountains and fertile plains. From the city it is possible to take an excursion into the surrounding mountains and to visit many architectural sites including Fujairah Fort, built in 1670, or Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates.
At the end of your cruise, do not miss out on visiting Muscat, your final port, and its Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which is like a palace from the Arabian Nights.

In your hand luggage, remember to bring any medicines that you need, and possibly a small spare bag of toiletries (in case of delay in the delivery of your baggage by the airline). Remember to always have your travel documents with you in case you need them: hotel vouchers, cruise vouchers, return flight tickets... Never leave them in your hold luggage.

Vertiginous, excessive, immoderate… Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, stands out for its architectural follies. Home to the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Kahlifa, with a total height of 828 metres, almost three times that of the Eiffel Tower, the city is also famous for the gigantic scale of the Palm Islands, its artificial islands in the form of a palm tree. You can explore more traditional districts not far away, with visits of the souks of Deira or the Gold Souk. Or perhaps you would prefer to discover Dubai Museum: located in an 18th-century fort, it tells the city’s history from Antiquity to the present day.

The political capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi stands out thanks to its exceptional cultural offering. In the Saadiyat Island district, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, designed by Jean Nouvel as a museum town inspired by traditional Arab architecture, creates a dialogue between objects and works from civilisations from all over the world around the great universal questions. A little further, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque boasts a sumptuous decor of marble, gold and glass. Abu Dhabi is also the gateway to the Al Ain oasis and its 150,000 date palms, a remarkable testimony to the settling of nomads in the region since Neolithic times, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You’ll make a port of call on the island of Sir Bani Yas, a real naturalist dream that has been dedicated to the conservation of endangered animal species since 1971. This enchanting former reserve of the Emir of Abu Dhabi is planted with more than two million trees. Nominated “The World’s Leading Sustainable Tourist Destination”, it has one the largest populations of Arabian oryxes. The ruins of one of the oldest Christian monasteries of the pre-Islamic era, dating back to 600 AD, are visible there.

On the banks of the Persian Gulf, discover Doha, the capital of Qatar. Rising out of the desert, the city has managed to maintain its traditions in spite of a frantic race for modernity. The cliff bordering Doha Bay has magnificent views over the city centre’s enormous constructions. The silhouette of the Museum of Islamic Art rises up near the quays, where the region’s typical sailboats, known as dhows, are docked. This “fortress”, designed by Ming Pei, the architect of the Louvre pyramid, is home to the finest collections of Islamic art in the world. Not far, the lively district of Souq Waqif and its colourful stalls are also an unmissable visit.

Located in the country’s north, on the Musandam Peninsula, Khasab is a city in the Sultanate of Oman. In the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, this small port built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains was established at the mouth of Wadi Khasab. You will love its authentic scenery and particularly its fjords, which cut through the landscapes in a spectacular fashion and have earned it the moniker “Norway of Arabia”. In the city, Khasab Castle and its atypical architecture are well worth a visit to discover the history and culture of Oman.

The easternmost of the United Arab Emirates unfolds onto the Gulf of Oman. Unique to the region, the geography of Fujairah is composed of lush mountains and fertile plains, as well as the vast deserts that the Emirate shares with its neighbours. It is the majestic massif of the Al Hajar Mountains that brought rain to the territory, creating the oases that were vital to the development of agriculture. Fujairah also offers travellers the possibility of visiting its historic treasures such as its castle, an old fort dating back to the 16th century, or the Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest in the United Arab Emirates, which was built in 1446.

Unlike neighbouring metropolises, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman has chosen to ban towers and skyscrapers and to cultivate the peninsula’s traditional and refined architectural style: low houses, domes, moucharaby windows, and wooden balconies. This authenticity adds to the charm of this small former maritime city protected by mountains and the forts constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century. There is no doubt that you will fall under the charm of the treasures of Omani craftsmanship: the souk in the old district of Mutrah is a perfect example of this, as is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
This tour will give you a brief insight into the famous architectural wonders of Dubai. It narrates the history behind the famous structures and how a desert city evolved into a city of skyscrapers.

From the pier, board your coach for the 30-minute drive to SMCCU (Sheikh Mohammed Centre of Cultural Understanding) located near historic Al Fahidi.
Dubai doesn’t disappoint when it comes to its many culinary experiences, which mirror all the various cultures that have made up the city. This tour invites you to dive into a whole world of flavours and you will see unveiled some secrets of Emirati cuisine from a chef.
Upon arrival at SMCCU, you will be welcomed with an Arabic coffee and dates. Your guide will help you exchange with the Chef. He will explain the ingredients used in Emirati cuisine.
Next, it will be your turn to try your hand at cooking, using the provided ingredients and following the Chef’s instructions. You will learn some new culinary skills and enjoy a lunch which will be expertly prepared by your own hand and overseen by a Chef.
After the cooking class, you will once again have an opportunity to discuss with the Chef. You will then y re-board your coach and head back to the ship.

From the pier, board your coach for a 30-minute drive to Sheikh Zayed Mosque, one of the world’s largest mosques with a capacity of 40,000 worshippers.
You will learn all about how the personal dream of the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed, came to life and how it became the third most popular tourist attraction in the world.
The building itself is a combination of architectural styles from different Muslim civilizations, like Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan or Egypt. Tourists and celebrants from all around the wold are welcome to witness the 82 onion-top domes, the reflective pools, and the iconic prayer hall that houses the world’s largest chandelier and carpet, both meticulously handmade.
After your visit, you will reboard your coach to return to the pier.

From the pier, board your coach for a 2-hour drive to Al Ain (with a comfort stop en route).
Al Ain is situated amidst a verdant terrain dotted with abundant groundwater springs. Known as the “Garden City of the Gulf”, the oasis and cultural sites of Al Ain have been listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, so far only, one in the United Arab Emirates.
Upon arrival, you will visit Al Jahili Fort, one of the largest forts in the UAE. It was built in the 1890s on orders from Zayed The First as the home to members of the Al Nahyan ruling family. Al Jahili Fort has been a cultural the focal point of activities associated with philosophy and heritage of Abu Dhabi.
Next, proceed towards Al Ain Palace Museum. The museum showcases the everyday life in a ruler's fort when the late Sheikh Zayed and his family resided in the palace prior to 1966 and its transformation after the discovery of petroleum. The Bedouin style architecture dates back to 1937 and was converted into a museum in 1998 as a main cultural and tourist attraction.
Continue your tour to Al Ain Oasis (al Falaj). You will walk around the outskirts of the oasis and admire from a distance the thousands date palms that have grown along the irrigation system that has been set up using both wells and “falajs”. These water channels have been used for centuries in the Arabic peninsula.
After lunch served in a local restaurant, you will proceed to the Animal Market, which sells camel meat and milk, along with sheep, cows, goats and poultry. See the bustle of the Camel market.
Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the approximately 2-hour return drive to the pier.

Get a behind the scenes look at one of the world’s most advanced Formula 1 circuits following the latest changes made to the layout.
You will depart the pier by coach and drive 40 minutes to Yas Marina Circuit.
You’ll be taken around the circuit stopping at key locations including the North Grandstand, the Yas Marina, and the Yas Drag Racing strip. You will explore the circuit’s high-tech facilities, including Race Control, and have the chance to take a picture at the Podium like an F1 champion.
You will see the astonishing structure of the Yas Hotel and the luxurious Marina. This is a must-see experience for all motor sports fans and non-motor sport fans interested in these state-of-the-art sports facility.

From the pier, board your coach for a short drive to the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum, the largest art museum on the Arabian Peninsula.
Located on the new built Saadiyat Island (literally “Island of Happiness”), this museum opened in 2017, with the ambition to display the works of historical, cultural and sociological significance from ancient times to the contemporary era.
This masterpiece building was designed by the French architect M. Jean Nouvel and has been inspired by cultural elements of the UAE. A falaj-inspired water system runs through the museum, under a dome of 180 meters of diameter of galleries, leaving the impression of a floating structure. The web-patterned roof allows the sun to filter through, resulting in an enchanting play of light of 7 850 “stars”.
The permanent gallery showcases art on loan from different French museums, including the musée du Louvre, the Centre Georges Pompidou or the musée d’Orsay in Paris. Art from the Middle East will also be shown within the museum, in order to set up a dialogue between people, and Eastern and Western art.
After your visit, you will enjoy some free time. You will then return to the ship.

The palace offers you a unique opportunity to marvel at majestic hallways, explore exhibitions that celebrate the region’s rich Arabic heritage and learn more about the rulers and governing institutions that shaped the nation.

From the pier, board your four-wheel-drive vehicle for an adventure through the beautiful Nature Reserve that occupies more than half of Sir Bani Yas Island, recently awarded a label as a Sustainable Tourism Destination.
This island is the largest natural island in the United Arab Emirates and is home to 10,000 free-roaming animals, a bird sanctuary and millions of trees and plants.
In 1977 following in the vision of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sir Bani Yas Island was established as a protected area, where hunting is strictly forbidden, and is has since become the largest Arabian wildlife reserve.
Your 1-hour tour includes numerous photo-stops, and you will be accompanied by an expert guide, who will help you to look for Arabian oryx, gazelles and giraffes, hyenas and cheetahs, and will teach you about the fragile ecosystem as well.

Also known as Sports City, the Aspire Zone Doha is a 250-hectare large sporting complex owned by the Aspire Zone Foundation. Aspire Zone Doha houses various venues like National Teams Club, Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Ladies Sports Hall, The Mosque, Aspire Park & Hamad Aquatic Centre. Photo stops at iconic monuments at Aspire Zone will be made like Rise Through Education of Lorenzo Quinn.
Next, you will head for visit & tour of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, which is one of the world’s most innovative sports museum. The museum brims with interactive exhibits, inspiring artefacts, and purpose-built activity areas for diverse audiences. 3-2-1 delves into the value and positive impact of sports, its origins, development, and culture in Qatar and beyond.
Before returning to the ship, discover Villaggio Mall during one-hour free time. Its Venetian styled interiors combine with a large range of outlets for shopping and entertainment venues to make it a unique attraction downtown.

Embark on a 1.5 hour cruise on a traditional wooden sailing boat, called a “dhow”. It was used in the past by merchants and fishermen. From pearl diving to fishing and trading with neighbouring countries, Qatar enjoys a unique relationship with the open seas.
You’ll enjoy a night cruise to view the city's skyline from the waters of the Arabian Gulf, combined with the heart-warming sense of Bedouin tradition.
During your cruise, amble all along the Corniche and admire the impressive “fireworks of colours” of Doha’s illuminated skyscrapers.
At the end of the tour, you will reboard your coach and head back to your ship.

Upon arriving, you will amazed by the large expanse of natural greenery, which stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding desert landscape. This area of dense vegetation has its own unique ecosystem, which is notable for attracting resident and migratory bird life, including flamingos and herons.
You will receive a safety briefing before parting on your kayak adventure in Purple Island - a Qatari natural wonder. You will have 1 hour to paddle through the calm water of the channels, along the lush green mangrove, and may admire the endemic flora and fauna, which includes migratory birds, fish, crabs or even tiny jumping fish.
After your exploration from the sea, you will enjoy a guided walk in the mangrove forests along the beach.
At the end of the visit, you will reboard your coach and head back to your ship.

From the pier, board your four-wheel-drive vehicle and start your exploration of the sandy dunes of south Qatar, a unique adventure experience that will give you the real feeling of a ride in the desert.
Khor al-Adaid, more commonly known as Inland Sea, is located in the southeastern side of Qatar. Surrounded by rolling sand dunes, the huge tidal embayment separates Qatar from nearby Saudi Arabia and is connected to the Arabian Gulf (Persian Gulf) through a narrow channel.
You tour will lead you to a Desert camp where you can relax and enjoy a refreshment.
After enjoying approximately 25 miles (40 kilometres) of trekking by 4X4 into the Inland Sea you will reach for your ship.

From the pier, board your coach and start your panoramic drive of Doha via la Corniche. This long promenade stretches over four miles along the half-moon bay of Doha.
Your first stop will be made at the Katara Cultural Village. The entire Katara complex is built in a fusion of oriental architectural and retro-romantic style, different from most of Doha’s new cultural buildings elsewhere in the city. This centre houses an opera, libraries, an amphitheatre, art galleries and other academic facilities, as well as green areas.
Then, you will visit the Pearl, pride (or at least one of) of the city. The most glamour addresses in Qatar are located on these man-made, integrated and sustainable islands of almost four million square metres of reclaimed land divided into 10 architecturally distinct and themed districts.
Finally, you will visit the National Museum of Qatar. This museum gives voice to the unique story of Qatar and its people from earliest times to the present day and onwards towards its future. Designed by French architect, M. Jean Nouvel, inspired by the local desert rose, symbolically, its architecture evokes the desert, its silent and eternal dimension, but also the spirit of modernity and daring that have come along and shaken up what seemed unshakeable.
At the end of the visit, you will get back to your ship.

From the pier, board your coach for a 20-minute drive to the Museum of Islamic Art.
You will visit the newly reopened Museum of Islamic Art which will give you an idea about early life in Qatar, the culture and civilization, when pearl hunting and fishing were the main profession in the country before the discovery of natural oil in 1930s.
It is the largest museum in Qatar, and houses one of the biggest collections in the world. It contains many artefacts (metal works, ceramics, textiles, manuscripts and paintings) from the 7th- to the 19th-century, which were used in various countries, such as China, India, Spain, Syria, etc. The building itself was designed by Mr Leoh Ming Pei, the famous Chinese-American architect involved in the construction of the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Finally, you will get back to your ship via la Corniche which stretches along the bay of Doha and then Pearl Qatar.

From the pier, board your four-wheel-drive vehicle and start your exploration.
Your panoramic journey will allow you to discover the barren interior and the mountains of Musandam, which are speckled with fossils dating back several million years.
You will drive to Jebel Harim, which means the Mountain of Women and stands at 6850 ft (2,087 metres), it is the highest peak in Musandam. On the way, you will pass the Bedouin village of Sayh situated at 1,100 metres (3,610 ft) above sea level. From the plateau of this calm and peaceful village, you can admire the beauty of Musandam’s inland valley. By reaching the summit of the Jebel Harim, you will be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the entire peninsula.
The next stop of your tour will be at Khawr Najd, a natural creek overlooking the Indian Ocean. This is the only fjord accessible by vehicle in Musandam and offers a wonderful view at the top of the road pass.
Finally, you will drive back to Khasab.

From the pier, meet your guide and walk a short distance to your dhow, the traditional wooden boat used in the past by merchants and fishermen.
After boarding your traditional Omani dhow on the pier, the cruise will take you toward Musandam’s longest fjord. Often referred to as the “Norway of the Arabia”, the calm, turquoise waters contrast with the creamy white limestone cliffs. Along the way, you will pass small fishing villages and perhaps even encounter dolphins.
The dhow will anchor in the vicinity of Telegraph Island, allowing you to go for a swim or just sit back and enjoy soft drinks, tea or coffee while admiring the views of mountains rising in the distance to heights over 2,000 feet.
After the tour, leisurely cruise back to Khasab.

This tour takes you along the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates, a region known for its beautiful beaches, the rugged Hajjar Mountain range and lush green expanses.
From the pier, board your coach for a 15-minute drive to the 300-year-old Fujairah Castle, one of the largest forts of the Emirate. The Fujairah Fort is characterized by its position on a high hill overlooking the whole city. After a photo stop, you will proceed to the Fujairah Museum.
Visit the Fujairah Museum with its various rooms will permit you to discover the ancestral history and heritage found during the missions of excavation of archeologists in the recent years. The museum houses old weapons, traditional costumes and artifacts. Other exhibits provide a glimpse at local lifestyle, past and present.
A visit to Fujairah is not complete without great photo opportunity of the Grand Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It is the main mosque in the Emirate of Fujairah, and the second largest in the United Arab Emirates.
Then drive to Fujairah Heritage village (an open-air museum). This place offers a unique insight into the history of the Arab region through its artistic displays. The houses feature the traditional architecture and materials used in the region. Some of the huts are made with bricks and mud while others are made with twigs and date leaves, showcasing the simplicity of a rural lifestyle.
You will then return to the pier.

From the pier, board your four-wheel-drive vehicle and start your exploration of the sandy dunes of Fujairah region, a unique adventure experience that will give you the real feeling of a ride in the desert.
Along the way, you will pass through an area of rugged rocks and gleaming reddish sand dunes en route to Fossil Rock, where 80-million-year-old fossils are embedded in the ancient rock. You will also see Camel Rock, a curious formation protruding from the desert sand and shaped like the head of a camel.
Then, enjoy an exciting sand-dune ride over the tall, undulating dunes before a stop to relax and have some refreshment.
Afterwards, re-board your 4X4 and enjoy the scenic drive back to the ship.

You will depart the airport for an Old Dubai city tour with a Crossroads of Civilization Museum visit.
This private museum in the Shindagha Historic District provides a fascinating glimpse of Dubai's historic role as a trading link between East and West. Start your day and head to Sharjah, the 3rd largest city in the United Arab Emirates. Your English speaking guide will you guide you through Sharjah Heritage Museum where you will learn more about the Emirati Bedouin lifestyle, architecture, art and music. End your visit of Sharjah with some free time in a local souq.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
Proceed with the visit of Bait Al Naboodah Museum. Built in 1845, Bait Al Naboodah is set around a sun-drenched courtyard with walls made of coral. This two-story house features a large entranceway, elaborately carved decorations and wind catchers on the walls. This is a chance to discover a typical Emirati house and to learn more about its architecture and the routine of the family that once lived there.
Board your coach for an hour ride to Mleiha archeological site. Designed with the local environment in mind, the centre has been built with consideration of its environmental and archeological context. Visit archeological sites dating back to the Neolithic period where stone tools were discovered that were used by early man. You will also get a chance to visit pre-islamic sites which are 3000 years old where coins from the Greek civilization were discovered buried in the sands of Mleiha.

Next, proceed towards Al Ain Palace Museum. The museum showcases the everyday life in a ruler's fort when the late Sheikh Zayed and his family resided in the palace prior to 1966 and its transformation after the discovery of petroleum. The Bedouin style architecture dates back to 1937 and was converted into a museum in 1998 as a main cultural and tourist attraction.
Continue your tour to Al Ain Oasis (al Falaj). You will walk around the outskirts of the oasis and admire from a distance the thousands date palms that have grown along the irrigation system that has been set up using both wells and “falajs”. This masterpiece building was designed by the French architect M. Jean Nouvel and has been inspired by cultural elements of the UAE. You will visit the newly reopened Museum of Islamic Art which will give you an idea about early life in Qatar, the culture and civilization, when pearl hunting and fishing were the main profession in the country before the discovery of natural oil in 1930s.
It is the largest museum in Qatar, and houses one of the biggest collections in the world. It contains many artefacts (metal works, ceramics, textiles, manuscripts and paintings) from the 7th- to the 19th-century, which were used in various countries, such as China, India, Spain, Syria, etc. The building itself was designed by Mr Leoh Ming Pei, the famous Chinese-American architect involved in the construction of the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Finally, you will get back to your ship via la Corniche which stretches along the bay of Doha and then Pearl Qatar.

Your panoramic journey will allow you to discover the barren interior and the mountains of Musandam, which are speckled with fossils dating back several million years.
You will drive to Jebel Harim, which means the Mountain of Women and stands at 6850 ft (2,087 metres), it is the highest peak in Musandam. On the way, you will pass the Bedouin village of Sayh situated at 1,100 metres (3,610 ft) above sea level. From the plateau of this calm and peaceful village, you can admire the beauty of Musandam’s inland valley. By reaching the summit of the Jebel Harim, you will be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the entire peninsula.
The next stop of your tour will be at Khawr Najd, a natural creek overlooking the Indian Ocean. This is the only fjord accessible by vehicle in Musandam and offers a wonderful view at the top of the road pass.

Then, you will visit the Muttrah Souq (market place), which is probably the oldest in Oman and replete with charm and choice. Here, you will be left on your own to wander around the narrow lanes, admire the goods on sale and enjoy the thrill of discovery.
You will then board your vehicle to drive through the old city to Al Alam Palace where you will take a photo stop. This monument is an architectural marvel, for both the design and location between the twin forts of Jalali and Mirani.

Then you will continue by the Royal Opera of Muscat. Inaugurated in 2011, it is a place with monumental architecture about the living arts. Its interiors combine refinement and modern technology.

Day 2 - Jebel Akhdar/Nizwa/Wahiba Sands
You will depart the hotel in the morning to explore Nizwa and its fortress.
Nizwa was once the capital in the 6th and 7th Century AD. Today it remains the most popular tourist attraction, with its historical buildings and imposing fort. Nizwa Fort, with its enormous round tower, was built in the 17th century to defend the route to the interior. The fort dominates the entire area, with the town having grown around the edifice. Access to the top is only given by means of a narrow, twisting staircase barred by heavy wooden doors, studded with metal. From the top of the tower, one can get a bird's eye view of the city of Nizwa.
At the end of the visit, you will proceed to the Nizwa Souq which is renowned for its intricately hand-carved Khanjar and ornately designed silver jewellery.
Then, you will continue and explore Wahiba Sands where is located your camp, the Desert Nights Camp.

In the afternoon, you will board your 4WD vehicle and proceed with a drive over dunes towards Wadi Bani Khalid, which stands out like an oasis in the desert, with clear green natural spring water pools. After spending some time in Wadi, you will continue your drive to Wahiba Sands, which stands out in stark contrast to Wadi Bani Khalid. The 'Wahiba Sands', often described as a perfect example of a Sand Sea, consists of large ranges of dunes running from north to south, some attaining a height of about 100 m and orange in colour. You will drive along the undulating sand dunes and experience the thrills of dune driving.
Later, you will continue your drive to your camp, and you will enjoy sunset from top of the dunes.
Drive back to camp for dinner and to overnight.
Day 3 - Wahiba Sands/Muscat
You will depart the camp early in the morning to reach Muscat (a 2-half hour drive).
You will then be transferred to the airport in time for check-in of the PONANT selected flight.
