As we sail along, experience saudade: the profound songs of fado resonate in the distance, lulling the neighbouring shores with gentle melancholy, while the concertos of a line-up of virtuoso artists accompany the parade of majestic volcanoes, jagged cliffs and lush valleys. This musical journey aboard Le Boréal, in partnership with RADIO CLASSIQUE and with the exceptional presence of Alain Duault, will take you into the heart of uniquely beautiful landscapes as well as historic cities with multiple sources of heritage. Throughout your journey, you will benefit from an excursion included per person per port of call, to choose from a selection offered by PONANT. During this cruise, admire the volcanic and verdant landscapes of Santa Cruz de La Palma, explore the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from La Gomera, or discover the oldest banana plantation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Your cruise will start on the island of Gran Canaria in Las Palmas, then your ship will take to the sea, sailing west to reach Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In these lands of a thousand contrasts, dominated by the emblematic silhouette of the Teide stratovolcano, discover the unique and fascinating landscapes found in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Teide National Park.
Le Boréal will then drop anchor at La Gomera. This tiny island with lush vegetation is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its biosphere reserve. This island is also renowned for its whistling language, Silbo, that the inhabitants use to communicate from one valley to another.
Next, Santa Cruz de La Palma will invite you to spend a moment suspended in time. Here, the accent is on authenticity and tranquillity as you succumb to the charms of its unspoilt nature and its unusual architectural heritage featuring traditional Canarian houses with brightly-coloured wooden balconies, sumptuous palaces, and religious buildings.
Your ship will then set a course northward to carry you to Madeira, a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. On this steep island covered in luxuriant vegetation, the variety of landscapes, including sheer cliffs, levadas (Madeiran aqueducts), banana plantations, and the laurel forest – Laurisilva – listed with UNESCO, never ceases to amaze visitors.
Your exploration will continue in the Algarve region at the country’s southern tip. Bewitching Lagos stands proud like a fortress in hues of ochre and orange, bordered by the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In this town of nature and culture, stroll in the paved small streets of the historic centre whose Moorish and Portuguese influences create a delightful blend.
Further north, you will head towards the surprising and picturesque mediaeval city of Setúbal. Surrounded by vast parks and nature reserves featuring abundant biodiversity, between the Sado Estuary and the Serra da Arrábda whose waters shelter many dolphins, you will also fall under the charm of the historic heritage of this authentic fishing town.
Your cruise will come to an end in Lisbon, sitting on the Tagus River, distilling its one-of-a-kind charm imbued with rich history.

Jean-Paul Gasparian
Born 1995 in Paris to parents who were both musicians, Jean-Paul Gasparian was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) at 14 and obtained his masters with distinction in 2015. His professors included Olivier Gardon, Jacques Rouvier, Michel Béroff and Laurent Cabasso. He went on to study at the CNSMDP with Michel Dalberto and Claire Désert, and at London’s Royal College of Music with Vanessa Latarche, fine tuning his skills with Elisso Virsaladze in Italy. He has also received advice from Tatiana Zelikman at Masterclasses abroad.
Jean-Paul has recorded three solo albums for the Evidence Classics label, all enthusiastically received by the French and foreign press. His latest album performing Rachmaninov was released in January 2022.
In February 2020 he was awarded the Thierry-Scherz Prize at Les Sommets Musicaux festival in Gstaad, which led to him recording a CD with the Berne Symphonic Orchestra for the Claves label that included Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Arno Babadjanian’s Heroic Ballade.
At France’s 2021 Victoires de la Musique, Jean-Paul won the instrumental soloist revelation category and in 2013 was awarded First Prize Philosophy at the Concours Général des Lycées.
In March 2014 he won at the prestigious Bremen European Competition, is artist in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation, and winner at the Villecroze Music Academy and Fondation l'Or du Rhin.

Katia Guerreiro
Since the global success of her revelatory album Fado Major in 2001, Katia Guerreiro has embodied the original fado better than anyone and is recognised worldwide as the ambassador par excellence of Portuguese music.
Her work earned her the ‘Female Personality of the Year’ accolade in 2005, and she was also made a Member of the European Cultural Parliament, a position she still holds today.
In 2010, as she celebrated the 10th anniversary of her career as a singer, the Amália Rodrigues Foundation awarded her the prestigious ‘Best Fado Performer’ prize.
In 2013, she released her first live album, Katia-Live at the Olympia, and received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres distinction from the French government, recognising her as a prominent representative of Portuguese culture.
In 2015, the President of the Portuguese Republic presented her with the Ordem do Infante D. Henrique for her contribution to promoting Portuguese culture. In Mexico, she was nominated for the Lunas del Auditorio prize for her concert at the Teatro de la Ciudad, acclaimed as one of the five best concerts of the year.
In 2016, Katia Guerreiro made her debut in the cinema in the film Alfama em Si, directed by Diogo Varela Silva, Amália Rodrigues’s nephew, with José Mário Branco as Musical Director.
Her latest album Sempre directed by José Mário Branco was released in February 2019.

During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

A stopover of sunny climes, Las Palmas is located on the north-east coast of Gran Canaria. A few streets away from Puerto de la Luz port, you’ll discover the vast Las Canteras beach, bordered with the town’s characteristic palms. You’ll find these palms are all over Las Palmas, in the streets and squares, especially on the plaza de Santa Ana in the heart of the historical district. It feels like you’ve travelled back in time here, as you stand looking at the tall houses beside the Santa Ana cathedral. Very close by, you can visit the Casa de Colón, a museum dedicated to the famous explorer. The museum is housed in the palace belonging to the island’s former governor. Chances are, you’ll be drawn to the covered Vegueta market to partake in some daily life along with the locals and taste some unfamiliar dishes.

The capital city of Tenerife is located on the north-east coast of the island. Close to the port is the monumental Plaza de España, bedecked with a fountain and plant sculptures. Around the plaza, you can admire the white marble Triunfo de la Candelaria obelisk, the historic casino of Santa Cruz and the majestic Guimerà theatre. Not far from here, the picturesque Iglesia de la Concepción church features the characteristic traits of Canaries architecture.

La Gomera rises from the water like a mirage. This volcanic island in the Canaries features jagged cliffs, valleys covered in palm trees, and beaches of black sand bathing in crystal-clear waters. But its greatest treasure lies at its heart: an exceptional laurisilva, a laurel forest whose prehistoric vegetation has been preserved thanks to the microclimate on the island. This unique ecosystem, common a few million years ago in the tropics, forms the Garajonay National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like the birds, the Guanches contribute to the poetry of the island too, with their whistled language called Silbo. This magical-sounding, melodious language is also listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.

The capital of the island of Palma, Santa Cruz de la Palma is the pearl of the Canaries. Founded in 1493 by the conquistador Alonso Fernandez de Lugo, the city has preserved a large and atypical architectural heritage from its colonial past, with its traditional Canarian houses adorned with brightly coloured wooden balconies, its cobbled streets, its sumptuous palaces and its numerous religious buildings. The Santa Catalina Castle is the symbol of the city. This 16th century military fortification helped defend the city from repeated attacks by French privateers.

This attractive capital of Madeira is located on the southern coast of the island. The walkways of the old town are lined with azulejos, or multi-coloured mosaics. If you follow these patterns, they’ll lead you to the appetising Mercado dos Lavradores market stands, the Frederico de Freitas museum, and the golden panelling of the Cathedral de la Sé. Along the waterfront, the palm tree-shaded promenade leads you to the teleféricos de Monte, Madeira's cable cars. Its panoramic cabins transport you over the city to top of Monte, where you can see the picturesque botanical garden.

Portugal’s capital city located on the banks of the Tagus, only a few kilometres from the Atlantic coast, is a city of exceptionally rich cultural diversity. At the mouth of the river harbour, impose two UNESCO World Heritage monuments, Jeronimos monastery and Belem tower. The Alfama hillside is also worth visiting: known for its fado bars and its Moorish streets, this district is the oldest one of the city and one of the most typical. Not far from there, Chiado’s elegant streets are home to big fashion labels and are an invitation to a bit of of luxury shopping.
Teide National Park
Tenerife, the largest island in the Canarys archipelago, is a destination full of contrasts. A place with exceptional landscapes, since 82% of the municipal territory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is considered a natural area, dominated by a volcanic cone of 3,718 meters named Le Teide.
From the pier, board your coach for a one-hour scenic drive inland through the lush forest area known as La Esperanza where you will have the opportunity to stop twice to take photos of the surrounding natural environment.
You will then reach El Portillo, the natural gateway to the circular mountain range, Las Cañadas. This is where the volcanic Mount Teide is located, whose summit reaches a height of 7,500 metres above ocean floor, considered the third highest volcanic structure in the world. The visual impact of the site is furhter enhanced by the atmospheric conditions that create constantly changing textures and tones in the landscape and a "sea of clouds" that forms a visually impressive backdrop.
Your tour then continues to the rock of Mirador, known also as el Dedo de Dios, which translates as "The Finger of God". You will make a photo stop in front of this incredible geological formation.
Finally, you will drive back to your ship, enjoying further breathtaking views of the lovely island of Tenerife.

La Laguna and Vineyards
Visit three uniquely compelling villages, tour a captivating wine museum and sample local vintages at an established family-owned winery on this satisfying tour.
Depart from the pier and board your coach for a 30 minutes drive to La Laguna. First, you will admire the meticulously preserved historic buildings in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the idyllic Aguere Valley and capital of the Canary Islands until 1723. You will see streets that have remained largely unchanged since the 16th century, imbuing the city's heart with a distinct character. Survey carefully maintained landmarks in this cultural and religious center, including San Fernando University and the Bishop's Palace.
Then, you will drive further inland to Tacoronte, a quaint town nestled in a richly fertile region. At the renowned Bodegas Ã?lvaro, revel in a tasting of the finest vintages derived from Tacoronte's marvelously flavorful grape, which has brought the town its greatest acclaim as a wine producer.
Afterward, you will travel to the charming coastal village of El Sauzal, where you will tour beguiling La Baranda wine museum, housed in a 17th-century farmhouse, and learn the fascinating history of the Canary Islands' wine production. You will delight in magnificent views of the northern coastline from the museum's terrace and reflect on the historical and delectable pleasures of your day.

Walking in Garajonay National park
Fall under the spell of the exceptional biodiversity and captivating landscapes of the Garajonay National Park, a natural sanctuary and UNESCO World Heritage Site, during a walk.
Beneath the canopy of the Garajonay National Park, the ancestral whisper of the laurel envelops every step in a natural symphony. Giant ferns emerge from the mist, while the winding paths reveal hidden waterfalls. In this national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, time stands still, offering a bewitching escapade at the very heart of nature.
Find out about age-old legends in this captivating setting of laurel forests and vast expanses of moors and heathers, renowned for its diverse flora. Legend has it that the park and the peak are named after the doomed lovers Gara and Jonay. You will explore the lush trails through ancient forest, until you reach fields, orchards and waterfalls.
Then, not far away, in Arure, enjoy a tasting of local products in a typical La Gomera restaurant to finish this adventure.

La Gomera, a scenic panoramic journey
In the very heart of the Garajonay National Park, in the lush Laurisilva Forest, discover the mysteries of the Laguna Grande, between bewitching nature, captivating panoramas and unique ecosystem.

After contemplating the views over the Hermigua Valley and the neighbouring island of Tenerife and its impressive Mount Teide from the Mirador El Rejo, your adventure will begin in the Laurisilva and Laguna Grande subtropical forests, characterised by the diversity of their flora. Find out about age-old legends in this setting of laurel forests and vast expanses of moors and heathers.
Then, at Agando, you will see the magnificent landscape of basalt formations of volcanic origin, in particular, the Roque Agando, before making the most of the panoramas provided by La Degollada de Peraza.

Miradors and palm honey
Between a lush UNESCO World Heritage Site park, exuberant palm groves, vertiginous belvederes and secret valleys, discover La Gomera at its wildest but also at its most gourmet thanks to a visit to a finca, where many delights are produced.
Known as the green heart of La Gomera and renowned for its banana plantations, Hermigua Valley is home to many treasures. Among them, a finca - a local ecological farm - where you will experience local flavours and know-how. Stroll around the botanical gardens and discover the famous “palmeras guaraperas”, Canarian palm trees, which produce a delicious palm “honey”, a veritable symbol of the archipelago.
Then, watch a local artisan hand-make baskets using banana leaves, vines and reeds. This first port of call will finish at the table, with a tasting of La Gomera’s main dishes and products: gofio, cheese, the famous palm honey, all washed down with a local wine.
Then, you will see a succession of belvederes, all revealing increasingly stunning viewpoints. From the impressive Mirador de Agulo, standing on top of its basalt rock, you will perhaps be able to admire Tenerife from afar. Above the clouds of La Palma
Although it is one of the smallest islands in the Canaries, La Palma is exceptionally steep for its size. A ridge crosses the center of the island from north to south and the entire mountain range exceeds 2000 meters in altitude.
From the pier, you will continue to the highest point of La Palma, the "Roque de Los Muchachos", located on the northern side of the "Caldera de Taburiente" National Park, at an altitude of 2,426 meters. It was designated a national park in 1954 because of its immense scientific importance and its wild and exceptional landscapes.
No matter which direction you look, the enormous crater of the Caldera de Taburiente will always offer you incredible views. This park features one of the biggest craters in the world with a circumference of 28,000 metres, a diameter of 9,000 metres and a depth of 700 metres. It´s lined with a pine tree forest, lava deposits and features furrowed by cool streams.
Before reaching the top, you will see the peculiar scene known as the “Sea of Clouds”. Each visit to Roque de los Muchachos is different, as the clouds are never the same. A photo stop will be made at Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the impressive Caldera de Taburiente.
The next stop will be at Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Centre, which is divided into 4 rooms. The first one, the Welcome Room houses the reception, the auditorium, the store and a large interactive table, where you will discover what makes up the telescopes of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Room 1 “The Canary Islands, a window to the Universe”: you will discover the reasons why the Canary Island were strategically chosen to house the most important telescopes in the world. Room 2 “Exploring the Universe”: here, you will dive into the depths of the cosmos, exploring all the corners of science and our Universe. Room 3 “Back to Earth”: in this room you will return to the municipality of Villa de Garafía, where the Visitor Centre is located. You will discover their traditions, their way of life, and their natural and cultural heritage.
After the visit you will have some free time to enjoy the amazing surroundings before heading to the port.

Natural treasures of northern La Palma

The Canary Island of La Palma invites admiration, contemplation and wonder. During this excursion, set off to discover the lush nature of the north of the island from several points on the island. From San Bartolo, the belvedere in the picturesque town of La Galga, you will contemplate the green landscapes that appear before you. In this heaven for nature lovers, you will cross mountain roads to reach the Los Tilos Forest site. This natural sanctuary, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is home to extraordinary biodiversity featuring rich flora: huge forests of bay trees, holly, arbutus, orange blossom, campanula.
As a volcanic island, La Palma is abundant in geological treasures that were formed by lava flows centuries ago. Among them is the Charco Azul natural pool and its crystal clear waters, where you will have time to enjoy a relaxing moment opposite the Atlantic Ocean. The clear waters and lush vegetation create a peaceful atmosphere, just perfect for unwinding.
On the way to a charming rum distillery, you will come across vast expanses of banana plantations, which contribute significantly to the local economy. Botanical Gardens & Monte
Leaving the pier, the tour takes you out towards the eastern borders of Funchal to the Botanical Gardens, one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Situated in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate. There is a herbarium, as well as terraces and greenhouses with many rare and indigenous plants. The gardens provide an excellent view over Funchal.
After a visit to these gardens, the next stop will be at the cable car station for your ride to the village of Monte. Enjoy the panoramic views over the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the viewpoint at Barbosas Square in Monte.
The village of Monte (1,677 ft., 550 m), is world known for its many fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal; its 18th-century twin-towered-church is a landmark throughout the city. In the centre of the high altar of the Church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte credited with being the source of many miracles, also inside you will find the tomb of Charles I, last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922. From here, you return back to port.

Levada walk
One of the best ways to see the interior of the island and to get to know Madeira a little better is to walk along one of the footpaths alongside the unique and complex Madeiran irrigation system called levadas. These channels have been dug by hand into the mountainside in the 19th century, to carry water from high up in the mountains down to the fields and villages below.
Enjoy a leisurely walk through the emerald green paradise valley with captivating views over quaint isolated villages and Camacha. The flower lined levada trickles along underneath a canopy of Eucalyptus and Oak trees. Enjoy the abundant flora and patchwork landscape that makes this walk delightful.
You will firstly be taken to Vale Paraiso to begin the first part of the walk - a gentle stroll, mostly on level ground - to Camacha (2,296 ft, 700 m), where a stop will be made for refreshment before doing the second part of the walk to Rochão.
You will then return to the pier by bus.

Panoramic tour of Cabo Girão
This tour takes you to the west of Funchal where you will first cross the neighbourhood tourist and residential area of the city.
Winding along the coast, the road passes through the village of Câmara de Lobos which means ‘The sea wolve’ a picturesque fishing village, where Winston Churchill stayed for several weeks.
The road then climbs into the mountains and passes through the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important wine regions of the island. The steep valleys offer good examples of terrace cultivation seen throughout Madeira.
To reach Cabo Girão, we cross pine and eucalyptus woods, easily identifiable by their scent. Cabo Girão is the second highest sea cliff in the world and the highest in Europe.
This peak rises above the sea, so the belvedere offers a breathtaking view of the coast, the Funchal.
On your return trip, you will pass by the Pico dos Barcelos, which offers a fantastic panorama of the whole city of Funchal, the bay, including the port, and the surrounding hills.

Tropical gardens and Eira do Serrado
Whether in the incredible Monte Palace Tropical Garden, or standing before the breathtaking panoramas at the Eira do Serrado mirador, discover the soul of Madeira, a veritable ode to enchanted nature.
Stretching across 70,000 m² (753,000 square feet), the Monte Palace Tropical Garden houses an impressive collection of plants, trees and flowers from all over the world. Like an Eden for lovers of botany, this 18th-century park is also a perfect place to escape and to stroll among the many lakes, home to koi carp with fascinating patterns, and the countless ceramic tiles, some of which date back to the 16th century.
You will then head for Eira do Serrado on a winding road revealing commanding views over the valleys below. Your destination, the Pico do Serrado summit, rises to around 915 metres (3,000 feet) and offers stunning views of Madeira’s high peaks as well as the isolated village of Curral das Freiras, the former refuge of the nuns of the Santa Clara convent during pirate raids in the 16th century.
To finish, let yourself be tempted by a local speciality — a chestnut liqueur accompanied by a slice of cake — before your drive back to the port.

Ponta da Piedade & Sagres
Dating back to the time of the Roman conquest, it was in the 15th century that Sagres reached its apogee, thanks to Prince Henry the Navigator who stayed there, linking this picturesque fishing port forever to the period of the Discoveries.
On Ponta de Sagres, a giant finger of rock pointing to the ocean, stand the Vila and defensive fortress of Henry the Navigator, buildings which evoking the past of this place, which ha that is become a key part of the history of the world, remembering the Vila and the defensive fortress founded by Henry the Navigator.
Nearby, at one of the most westerly points of the European continent (after Cabo da Roca), is the Cape of St. Vincente (a sacred place for the Roman's that named it Promontorium Sacrum), which opening opens on to a vast horizon of sea and sky.
From here, walk to the Rocky coastal area to visit the magnificent Ponta da Piedade, which offers fantastic views of the coastal cliffs and golden Rock formations before returning to the Lagos Marina.

Discover the Palácio da Bacalhôa, a 15th-century jewel that belonged to the Portuguese royal family, and its art collection and the wines that now forge the reputation of this property.
The vibrant Quinta da Bacalhôa is located 30 minutes by bus from the port of Azeitão. As rare architectural evidence of the times, the property shows the multiple influences of the locals. Moorish and Renaissance styles interweave in the shade of the Morocco-inspired towers, the stunning multicoloured azulejos and gardens that are ideal to get lost in.
There is also a museum, which, like the vineyard cellar, is full of rarities. What could be the most precious? Perhaps the first dated azulejo in Portugal! Panoramic tour of Lisbon
From the Belém neighbourhood and its famous tower to the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover Lisbon’s emblematic sites during a panoramic tour plunging you into the city’s history.
Your visit will begin in the Belém neighbourhood, nicknamed the district of the Discoveries, because of the majestic 16th century monuments built there. You will do a photo stop in front of the famous Belém Tower, known for its delicate Venetian balconies and its crenelated turrets. You will then see the Monument to the Discoveries, an imposing structure dedicated to Henry the Navigator, which commemorates the era of the great Portuguese explorations.
You will then admire the Jerónimos Church & Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site also dating back to the 16th century. A late example of Manueline style, designed by the architect Diogo de Boitaca, it was constructed to celebrate Vasco de Gama’s return from India. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the monastery stands on the site of the former Santa Maria de Belém chapel, where Vasco da Gama prayed before setting sail towards the African coastlines and on to India.

Palace of Mafra and wine tasting
Discover the Palace of Mafra, one of Portugal's most impressive monuments, before heading to a private quinta to taste one of the country's most emblematic wines.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Royal Building of Mafra is an ode to 18th-century Baroque art. The complex of monuments, all of them magnificent, took 50,000 workers 18 years to construct and contains countless treasures. Inside the church, made entirely of marble, you will find six remarkable organs and one of the most famous carillons in Europe. Inside the palace walls, the so-called jewel of Mafra is revealed: its library. This magnificent gallery houses 35,000 books, including many rare editions, and is often regarded as one of the finest libraries in the world.
Next, you will visit a private quinta. In the early 2000s, the last vines of the Jampal variety were rediscovered after having been almost forgotten. Today, this wine is a real rarity. You will have the opportunity to visit the cellar and taste a selection of six wines, both red and white, served with fresh bread and olive oil.

Day 2 – Las Palmas
After breakfast and check-out, your walking guided visit will be first focus on Vegueta, Las Palmas’s old colonial area.
Next, enjoy a drive through one of the greenest valleys of the island, “Valle de Agaete” to reach a local winery. An intense citrus scent will meet your noses just getting off your transportation. The winery is blessed with lime and lemon trees scenting the entrance.
On the way, the owner will talk you through all the local vegetation and plants : crops, trees, flowers, and plants as far as your eyes can reach.

Tenerife, the largest island in the Canarys archipelago, is a destination full of contrasts. A place with exceptional landscapes, since 82% of the municipal territory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is considered a natural area, dominated by a volcanic cone of 3,718 meters named Le Teide.
From the pier, board your coach for a one-hour scenic drive inland through the lush forest area known as La Esperanza where you will have the opportunity to stop twice to take photos of the surrounding natural environment.
You will then reach El Portillo, the natural gateway to the circular mountain range, Las Cañadas. Miradors and palm honey
Between a lush UNESCO World Heritage Site park, exuberant palm groves, vertiginous belvederes and secret valleys, discover La Gomera at its wildest but also at its most gourmet thanks to a visit to a finca, where many delights are produced.
Known as the green heart of La Gomera and renowned for its banana plantations, Hermigua Valley is home to many treasures. Among them, a finca - a local ecological farm - where you will experience local flavours and know-how. Stroll around the botanical gardens and discover the famous “palmeras guaraperas”, Canarian palm trees, which produce a delicious palm “honey”, a veritable symbol of the archipelago.
Then, watch a local artisan hand-make baskets using banana leaves, vines and reeds. This first port of call will finish at the table, with a tasting of La Gomera’s main dishes and products: gofio, cheese, the famous palm honey, all washed down with a local wine.
Then, you will see a succession of belvederes, all revealing increasingly stunning viewpoints. From the impressive Mirador de Agulo, standing on top of its basalt rock, you will perhaps be able to admire Tenerife from afar. On the Laguna Grande road, you will immediately understand why the viewpoint called Vallehermoso (‘beautiful valley’ in Spanish) earned its name. Above the clouds of La Palma
Although it is one of the smallest islands in the Canaries, La Palma is exceptionally steep for its size. A ridge crosses the center of the island from north to south and the entire mountain range exceeds 2000 meters in altitude.
From the pier, you will continue to the highest point of La Palma, the "Roque de Los Muchachos", located on the northern side of the "Caldera de Taburiente" National Park, at an altitude of 2,426 meters. It was designated a national park in 1954 because of its immense scientific importance and its wild and exceptional landscapes.
No matter which direction you look, the enormous crater of the Caldera de Taburiente will always offer you incredible views. This park features one of the biggest craters in the world with a circumference of 28,000 metres, a diameter of 9,000 metres and a depth of 700 metres. It´s lined with a pine tree forest, lava deposits and features furrowed by cool streams.
Before reaching the top, you will see the peculiar scene known as the “Sea of Clouds”. Each visit to Roque de los Muchachos is different, as the clouds are never the same. A photo stop will be made at Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the impressive Caldera de Taburiente.
The next stop will be at Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Centre, which is divided into 4 rooms. The first one, the Welcome Room houses the reception, the auditorium, the store and a large interactive table, where you will discover what makes up the telescopes of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Room 1 “The Canary Islands, a window to the Universe”: you will discover the reasons why the Canary Island were strategically chosen to house the most important telescopes in the world. Room 2 “Exploring the Universe”: here, you will dive into the depths of the cosmos, exploring all the corners of science and our Universe. Room 3 “Back to Earth”: in this room you will return to the municipality of Villa de Garafía, where the Visitor Centre is located. You will discover their traditions, their way of life, and their natural and cultural heritage.
After the visit you will have some free time to enjoy the amazing surroundings before heading to the port.

From San Bartolo, the belvedere in the picturesque town of La Galga, you will contemplate the green landscapes that appear before you. In this heaven for nature lovers, you will cross mountain roads to reach the Los Tilos Forest site. This natural sanctuary, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is home to extraordinary biodiversity featuring rich flora: huge forests of bay trees, holly, arbutus, orange blossom, campanula.
As a volcanic island, La Palma is abundant in geological treasures that were formed by lava flows centuries ago. Botanical Gardens & Monte
Leaving the pier, the tour takes you out towards the eastern borders of Funchal to the Botanical Gardens, one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Situated in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate. There is a herbarium, as well as terraces and greenhouses with many rare and indigenous plants. The gardens provide an excellent view over Funchal.
After a visit to these gardens, the next stop will be at the cable car station for your ride to the village of Monte. Enjoy the panoramic views over the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the viewpoint at Barbosas Square in Monte.
The village of Monte (1,677 ft., 550 m), is world known for its many fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal; its 18th-century twin-towered-church is a landmark throughout the city. In the centre of the high altar of the Church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte credited with being the source of many miracles, also inside you will find the tomb of Charles I, last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922. From here, you return back to port.

Levada walk
One of the best ways to see the interior of the island and to get to know Madeira a little better is to walk along one of the footpaths alongside the unique and complex Madeiran irrigation system called levadas. These channels have been dug by hand into the mountainside in the 19th century, to carry water from high up in the mountains down to the fields and villages below.
Enjoy a leisurely walk through the emerald green paradise valley with captivating views over quaint isolated villages and Camacha. The flower lined levada trickles along underneath a canopy of Eucalyptus and Oak trees. Enjoy the abundant flora and patchwork landscape that makes this walk delightful.
You will firstly be taken to Vale Paraiso to begin the first part of the walk - a gentle stroll, mostly on level ground - to Camacha (2,296 ft, 700 m), where a stop will be made for refreshment before doing the second part of the walk to Rochão.
You will then return to the pier by bus.

Panoramic tour of Cabo Girão
This tour takes you to the west of Funchal where you will first cross the neighbourhood tourist and residential area of the city.
Winding along the coast, the road passes through the village of Câmara de Lobos which means ‘The sea wolve’ a picturesque fishing village, where Winston Churchill stayed for several weeks.
The road then climbs into the mountains and passes through the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important wine regions of the island. The steep valleys offer good examples of terrace cultivation seen throughout Madeira.
To reach Cabo Girão, we cross pine and eucalyptus woods, easily identifiable by their scent. Cabo Girão is the second highest sea cliff in the world and the highest in Europe.
This peak rises above the sea, so the belvedere offers a breathtaking view of the coast, the Funchal.
On your return trip, you will pass by the Pico dos Barcelos, which offers a fantastic panorama of the whole city of Funchal, the bay, including the port, and the surrounding hills.

Tropical gardens and Eira do Serrado
Whether in the incredible Monte Palace Tropical Garden, or standing before the breathtaking panoramas at the Eira do Serrado mirador, discover the soul of Madeira, a veritable ode to enchanted nature.
Stretching across 70,000 m² (753,000 square feet), the Monte Palace Tropical Garden houses an impressive collection of plants, trees and flowers from all over the world. Like an Eden for lovers of botany, this 18th-century park is also a perfect place to escape and to stroll among the many lakes, home to koi carp with fascinating patterns, and the countless ceramic tiles, some of which date back to the 16th century.
You will then head for Eira do Serrado on a winding road revealing commanding views over the valleys below. Your destination, the Pico do Serrado summit, rises to around 915 metres (3,000 feet) and offers stunning views of Madeira’s high peaks as well as the isolated village of Curral das Freiras, the former refuge of the nuns of the Santa Clara convent during pirate raids in the 16th century.

Dating back to the time of the Roman conquest, it was in the 15th century that Sagres reached its apogee, thanks to Prince Henry the Navigator who stayed there, linking this picturesque fishing port forever to the period of the Discoveries.
On Ponta de Sagres, a giant finger of rock pointing to the ocean, stand the Vila and defensive fortress of Henry the Navigator, buildings which evoking the past of this place, which ha that is become a key part of the history of the world, remembering the Vila and the defensive fortress founded by Henry the Navigator.
Nearby, at one of the most westerly points of the European continent (after Cabo da Roca), is the Cape of St. Vincente (a sacred place for the Roman's that named it Promontorium Sacrum), which opening opens on to a vast horizon of sea and sky.

Panoramic tour of Lisbon
From the Belém neighbourhood and its famous tower to the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover Lisbon’s emblematic sites during a panoramic tour plunging you into the city’s history.
Your visit will begin in the Belém neighbourhood, nicknamed the district of the Discoveries, because of the majestic 16th century monuments built there. You will do a photo stop in front of the famous Belém Tower, known for its delicate Venetian balconies and its crenelated turrets. You will then see the Monument to the Discoveries, an imposing structure dedicated to Henry the Navigator, which commemorates the era of the great Portuguese explorations.
You will then admire the Jerónimos Church & Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site also dating back to the 16th century. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Royal Building of Mafra is an ode to 18th-century Baroque art. The complex of monuments, all of them magnificent, took 50,000 workers 18 years to construct and contains countless treasures. Inside the church, made entirely of marble, you will find six remarkable organs and one of the most famous carillons in Europe. Inside the palace walls, the so-called jewel of Mafra is revealed: its library. This magnificent gallery houses 35,000 books, including many rare editions, and is often regarded as one of the finest libraries in the world.
Next, you will visit a private quinta. In the early 2000s, the last vines of the Jampal variety were rediscovered after having been almost forgotten. Today, this wine is a real rarity. You will have the opportunity to visit the cellar and taste a selection of six wines, both red and white, served with fresh bread and olive oil.

Day 1 – Lisbon
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local English-speaking representative.
This morning, you will be driven to the Belem District, also known as the district of the Great Discoveries for its many monuments dating from the 16th-century. You will make a stop in front of the magnificent Jeronimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Then, you will walk until the tram stop departure from Belem. During about 1 hour, enjoy the best way to get across town on board an icon of Lisbon. The small yellow or red trams beg to be photographed as they travel through the prettiest historic and residential quarters of the city.
Opening the windows and letting the parade of buildings covered in azulejos pass you by, glimpsing the sudden ascents and marvelling at the winding route between hills, miradors and squares that take your breath away, is one of the things you have to do while in the city.
Travel in the past while your private tram run through the tiny streets and the main arteries and catch a very good perspective of Lisbon until the final stop at Miradouro de Santa Luzia where the viewpoint is one of the best views of the town. From there, at the top of Alfama district, you will discover little by little the oldest and most traditional neighbourhood in Lisbon, with cobbled lanes and alleys and steeps, gruelling inclines. Enjoy the view, atmosphere, and authentic spirit of the oldest side of the capital.
After a 45-minute walk, you will be driver until a local restaurant for lunch.
Drive back to your hotel.
Enjoy free time to relax.
End of the day and diner are at leisure.

Day 2 - Lisbon / Mafra
After breakfast, this morning, you will head towards Mafra (1-hour at drive) where you will discover the Palace (UNESCO site) with its Monastery and its Church, which are some of the most imposing buildings in Portugal.
Then, you will have lunch in a local restaurant.
The afternoon, you will enjoy a wine tasting in a local vineyard.
Drive back to Lisbon (about a 1-hour at drive) and relax at your hotel Altis Avenida 5*.
End of the day and diner are at leisure.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 – Lisbon
After breakfast and check-out, time at leisure depending on your flight schedule.
You will then be transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
