Throughout your journey, you will benefit from an excursion included per person per port of call, to choose from a selection offered by PONANT. During this cruise, discover the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax as well as the charming fishing village of Peggy’s Cove; fall under the spell of the pretty and lively little streets of the Beacon Hill district and wander around the aisles of the famous Quincy Market in Boston; or contemplate the wild nature marked by geological curiosities on the Cliff Walk and admire the finest residences inherited from the Golden Age, from Newport. Le Champlain will sail along the coastline of Nova Scotia whose towns and villages are full of history and undeniable character. Fall in love with Halifax, a cultural crossroads and provincial capital surrounded by sumptuous nature. The rocky coast of western Nova Scotia will emerge slowly before you. During an all-new port of call in Yarmouth, immerse yourself in Acadian culture and discover their traditions and ancestral customs through encounters with the population.
You will leave Canadian waters for the United States. In Eastport, you will walk on the first stretch of land reached by the French upon arriving in the New World. This is where the highest tides in the Northern Hemisphere can be found, with tidal ranges of up to 8 metres (26 feet). In Portland, scattered across the hollow of Casco Bay, wander the narrow and paved streets of this former colonial maritime port whose 19th century buildings still bear traces of that period. Provincetown will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the origins of the country in the easy atmosphere of Cape Cod.
After crossing the Cape Cod Canal, you will reach the state of Rhode Island and arrive in the charming marina of Newport. Here, fall under the spell of the East Coast atmosphere, between sublime Golden Age residences inspired by French and Italian palaces, a coastline featuring a wealth of charm, and a gentle way of life. Then, further south, the legendary New York reveals the majestic Statue of Liberty from the sea: an unforgettable final port of call in a city that is second to none.
You will conclude your journey in Boston, considered to be the cradle of the United States for the key role it played during the American Revolution.

Edgar Moreau
Born in 1994 in Paris, Edgar Moreau studied with Philippe Muller at the Paris Conservatoire and continued his studies with Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy. At the age of seventeen he received Second Prize and Prize for the Best Performance of the Commissioned Work at the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition. He was also named New Talent of the Year 2013 and Instrumental Soloist of the Year 2015 at the Victoires de la Musique Classique.
Edgar Moreau made his orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the Orchestra del Teatro Regio in Turin. Since then he has performed with many leading ensembles including the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Brussels Philharmonic. He is also a committed chamber musician and has worked with the Modigliani and Ebène quartets, Martha Argerich, Nicholas Angelich, Khatia Buniatishvili, etc. His debut recording, Play, was released in 2014 by Warner Classics, followed by Giovincello (ECHO Classik 2016), baroque concertos with Il Pomo d’Oro and Riccardo Minasi. To be released, a duo recital with David Kadouch around Franck, Poulenc and Strohl. Edgar Moreau plays a David Tecchler cello, dated 1711.

The city played an important strategic military role in the two world wars and was also the largest Royal Navy base during the American Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. Most of the victims of the Titanic disaster were laid to rest here in the Fairview cemetery, which you will have the chance to discover. At this port of call, you will also have the opportunity to visit the picturesque fishing village of Peggy’s Cove and discover its breathtaking natural landscapes.

At the Canadian border, Eastport is, as its name suggests, the easternmost city in the United States. It is here that, in 1604, the first French people to arrive in the New World settled. Discover their story at the Saint Croix Island International Historic Site. In the late 19th century, this charming town in Maine grew significantly as a result of the development of the canned sardine industry. At the time, the town boasted more than a dozen sardine canneries. The architecture and some mansions from this period live on, affording the town a distinct elegance. One of the attractions of this town is undeniably its proximity to the Old Sow Whirlpool, the largest tidal whirlpool in the Northern Hemisphere, where visitors can watch the birds and marine mammals that come to feed on the nutrients driven up to the surface.

At the far end of Cape Cod is where you’ll find this hidden little New England village. Its elongated bay offers pristine, sandy beaches. For a bit of shopping, you can explore Commercial Street and the many art galleries and coffee shops there. At the end of the street, you will come across the Pilgrim Monument and its 116 steps. This tower was built at the beginning of the century to celebrate the first pilgrims who arrived a few hundred years earlier. The Provincetown museum commemorates the history and way of life of the Mayflower Pilgrims. Fine food is not scarce here, and you’ll be tempted by delicious sea food platters in the restaurants opposite the harbour!

Halifax highlights & Peggy’s Cove
Turned towards the ocean, Halifax is one of the country’s most important fishing ports and will offer up a perfect blend of history and nature, sea spray and feasts, for enthusiasts of maritime tales. Proof of this will be found at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and in the charming village of Peggy’s Cove.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic houses many maritime treasures, including thousands of marine photographs, boat models, a vast collection of marine maps, portraits of ships, and so on. However, it is doubtless its permanent exhibition devoted to the Titanic, the largest collection of wooden objects from the ship that sank 700 nautical miles off the coast, which attracts the most curiosity.
Then, Peggy’s Cove, a charming fishing village where 40 souls live all year round, will reveal its colourful houses, its small shops, its immense rocks, its lighthouse, and its history with close links to lobster fishing. In the eponymous cove, discover the sculpture of William de Garthe, dedicated to local fishermen.
On the way back, admire the panoramic views over Halifax and its famous citadel, the guardian of the city since it was founded two and a half centuries ago.

It would almost be easy to forget that Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia, is one of the country’s largest and most dynamic ports. Its public gardens, its historic monuments and the old-world charm of certain buildings make it seem like an attractive little town sitting at the crossroads of eras.
Amidst the ultra-modern glass towers, Halifax unveils various historical and architectural treasures that make the city, founded in 1749, even more distinctive. In the city centre, for example, you will come face to face with Province House, the seat of provincial government and the oldest legislative building in Canada. It was proclaimed a gem of Georgian architecture by Charles Dickens. The hospitals, universities, City Hall, St Paul's Church and the residential districts of the South End also offer a fine overview of 18th- and 19th-century architecture.
Further on, the Public Gardens, built in the Victorian style in 1874, unveil lush nature, punctuated here and there with elegant statues, fountains and a fine bandstand.
On the foothills of the city, Halifax Citadel will tell another part of this natural harbour’s history. A majestic fort completed in 1856, it was one of the jewels of the Crown and among the most advanced British military fortifications of its day.
Finally, at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the final resting place for 112 victims of the sinking of the Titanic, you will rediscover the history of the famous cruise ship’s tragic maiden voyage.

Brooklyn and Highline walking tour
From Brooklyn Bridge, stroll New York’s mythical spots and immerse yourself in ‘Dumbo’, one of the borough’s trendiest districts, before going on the High Line, the unmissable walk in the heart of Manhattan.
Arriving at Brooklyn Bridge you will walk over this internationally renowned emblem of New York City thanks to its pedestrian walkway, which is almost 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) long. It is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and it connects Brooklyn to Manhattan by crossing the East River. You will discover the surprising and dramatic history of this bridge as you enjoy magnificent views over the Manhattan skyline.
Once you reach Brooklyn, you will be able to explore Dumbo - the name is short for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.” With its spectacular seafront access, flourishing artistic scene and raw architectural grandeur, it has become one of the Brooklyn’s most fashionable neighbourhoods. Less than 20 years ago, the former industrial district was largely deserted, inhabited by artists who had colonised its lofts. Today, the area is brimming with vintage boutiques, trendy independent bookshops, great places to eat, and art galleries. Take the time to stroll around the cobbled streets to discover its treasures.
From Brooklyn, take the bus to the west of the island and walk the High Line, a former elevated rail track converted into a park suspended over Manhattan’s West Side. Magnificent gardens offer spectacular views over the heart of Manhattan.

Let yourself be guided around the former New York World Trade Center, where the tragic events of September 11 took place. The New Yorkers who will guide you all have a personal connection with September 11. Listen to their stories and those of other New Yorkers who experienced that day’s events.
The visit will begin with St. Paul's Chapel in Manhattan, which since 2001 has become a symbol of American faith against terrorism. Located in the middle of the buildings and only a few metres from the place of the attacks, the chapel miraculously survived the falling buildings and debris. As of the day following the attacks, it was converted into a makeshift emergency centre and its wrought-iron fence served as a notice board where families hung missing persons notices.
You will then go to the FDNY Memorial Wall and walk along the bronze bas-relief that pays tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 11 September 2001. You will go past the FDNY 10 House, the World Trade Center fire station, covered in a huge American flag.
Finally, at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, gather your thoughts around the two pools of Reflecting Absence, the largest man-made waterfalls in the US, inside the memorial, symbolising the void left by the tragedy. Located on a square where over 400 swamp white oak trees are growing, the pools are surrounded by bronze parapets with the names of the victims inscribed on them.

Plunge into the founding history of the United States by calling on “Lady Liberty” and visiting the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.
From Battery Park, you will board a ferry to Liberty Island. During the trip, you will admire views over New York Harbour, Brooklyn Bridge, Staten Island, New Jersey and the Manhattan cityscape. Once on Liberty Island, you will be able to walk around the foot of the Statue of Liberty inaugurated in 1886. The island is also home to outdoor exhibitions and souvenir shops.
Re-boarding the ferry, you will go to Ellis Island, another National Historic Landmark. Ellis Island was the main immigration centre for the United States from 1892 until the Second World War. Today, it houses a unique museum detailing all the different aspects of immigration and its effects on a growing nation. Ellis Island processed more than 12 million immigrants. Today, over 40 percent of Americans can trace some part of their ancestry back to Ellis Island. Many people use the resource room there to research ancestors and the vessels they came in on.
At Ellis Island you will have approximately one hour to explore the museum independently, souvenir shops and visit the cafés with the provided lunch voucher for lunch before boarding the ferry back to Battery Park.

This excursion involves several hours walking and standing on mostly flat and paved ground. The excursion will only be conducted in English. Park visitors must undergo an airport-style security check before boarding ships departing from Battery Park and Liberty State Park. This security check will also take place at the entrance inside the Statue. All items deemed inappropriate or prohibited will be confiscated and retained by the US Park Police. Large bags and bulky items are not permitted. Food and drink are not permitted inside the Statue of Liberty.

Central Park, Greenwich Village, Soho, Little Italy or Chinatown: set off on a tour of Manhattan’s most iconic neighbourhoods, with historic skyscrapers, emblematic avenues and, of course, the most famous park in the world.
New York is teeming with spots boasting breathtaking views. Among them, the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Observation Deck stands out. Situated between the 91st and 93rd floors and surrounded by glass, it will make you feel like you are floating above the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, with views of the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building.
After this first vertiginous stop, you will head for Central Park, the lungs of the Big Apple. Wander its tree-lined paths and lush meadows and discover this oasis of calm and greenery, as popular with New Yorkers as it is with tourists.

After breakfast and check-out, board your coach for a visit of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The museum is renowned for its unique collection, stunning architecture, and intriguing history. Isabella Stewart Gardner was an American art collector, philanthropist, and patron of the arts. It was opened to the public in 1903 and was designed to resemble a 15th-century Venetian palace, reflecting Gardner's love for European art and culture.

After lunch, board your coach and explore scenic Boston. Discover among sites Copley Square, see the architectural wonders of Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library. Get an up-close look at the 23-caret gold-leaf dome of Massachusetts State House, the majestic steeple of Old North Church, of Paul Revere fame, and the Old South Meeting House where the Boston Tea Party began.

Turned towards the ocean, Halifax is one of the country’s most important fishing ports and will offer up a perfect blend of history and nature, sea spray and feasts, for enthusiasts of maritime tales. Proof of this will be found at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and in the charming village of Peggy’s Cove.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic houses many maritime treasures, including thousands of marine photographs, boat models, a vast collection of marine maps, portraits of ships, and so on. However, it is doubtless its permanent exhibition devoted to the Titanic, the largest collection of wooden objects from the ship that sank 700 nautical miles off the coast, which attracts the most curiosity.
Then, Peggy’s Cove, a charming fishing village where 40 souls live all year round, will reveal its colourful houses, its small shops, its immense rocks, its lighthouse, and its history with close links to lobster fishing. In the eponymous cove, discover the sculpture of William de Garthe, dedicated to local fishermen.
On the way back, admire the panoramic views over Halifax and its famous citadel, the guardian of the city since it was founded two and a half centuries ago.

It would almost be easy to forget that Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia, is one of the country’s largest and most dynamic ports. Its public gardens, its historic monuments and the old-world charm of certain buildings make it seem like an attractive little town sitting at the crossroads of eras.
Amidst the ultra-modern glass towers, Halifax unveils various historical and architectural treasures that make the city, founded in 1749, even more distinctive. In the city centre, for example, you will come face to face with Province House, the seat of provincial government and the oldest legislative building in Canada. It was proclaimed a gem of Georgian architecture by Charles Dickens. The hospitals, universities, City Hall, St Paul's Church and the residential districts of the South End also offer a fine overview of 18th- and 19th-century architecture.
Further on, the Public Gardens, built in the Victorian style in 1874, unveil lush nature, punctuated here and there with elegant statues, fountains and a fine bandstand.
On the foothills of the city, Halifax Citadel will tell another part of this natural harbour’s history. A majestic fort completed in 1856, it was one of the jewels of the Crown and among the most advanced British military fortifications of its day.
Finally, at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the final resting place for 112 victims of the sinking of the Titanic, you will rediscover the history of the famous cruise ship’s tragic maiden voyage.

Brooklyn and Highline walking tour
From Brooklyn Bridge, stroll New York’s mythical spots and immerse yourself in ‘Dumbo’, one of the borough’s trendiest districts, before going on the High Line, the unmissable walk in the heart of Manhattan.
Arriving at Brooklyn Bridge you will walk over this internationally renowned emblem of New York City thanks to its pedestrian walkway, which is almost 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) long. It is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and it connects Brooklyn to Manhattan by crossing the East River. You will discover the surprising and dramatic history of this bridge as you enjoy magnificent views over the Manhattan skyline.
Once you reach Brooklyn, you will be able to explore Dumbo - the name is short for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.” With its spectacular seafront access, flourishing artistic scene and raw architectural grandeur, it has become one of the Brooklyn’s most fashionable neighbourhoods. Less than 20 years ago, the former industrial district was largely deserted, inhabited by artists who had colonised its lofts. Today, the area is brimming with vintage boutiques, trendy independent bookshops, great places to eat, and art galleries. Take the time to stroll around the cobbled streets to discover its treasures.
From Brooklyn, take the bus to the west of the island and walk the High Line, a former elevated rail track converted into a park suspended over Manhattan’s West Side. Magnificent gardens offer spectacular views over the heart of Manhattan.

Let yourself be guided around the former New York World Trade Center, where the tragic events of September 11 took place. The New Yorkers who will guide you all have a personal connection with September 11. Listen to their stories and those of other New Yorkers who experienced that day’s events.
The visit will begin with St. Paul's Chapel in Manhattan, which since 2001 has become a symbol of American faith against terrorism. Located in the middle of the buildings and only a few metres from the place of the attacks, the chapel miraculously survived the falling buildings and debris. As of the day following the attacks, it was converted into a makeshift emergency centre and its wrought-iron fence served as a notice board where families hung missing persons notices.
You will then go to the FDNY Memorial Wall and walk along the bronze bas-relief that pays tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 11 September 2001. You will go past the FDNY 10 House, the World Trade Center fire station, covered in a huge American flag.
Finally, at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, gather your thoughts around the two pools of Reflecting Absence, the largest man-made waterfalls in the US, inside the memorial, symbolising the void left by the tragedy. Located on a square where over 400 swamp white oak trees are growing, the pools are surrounded by bronze parapets with the names of the victims inscribed on them.

Plunge into the founding history of the United States by calling on “Lady Liberty” and visiting the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.
From Battery Park, you will board a ferry to Liberty Island. During the trip, you will admire views over New York Harbour, Brooklyn Bridge, Staten Island, New Jersey and the Manhattan cityscape. Once on Liberty Island, you will be able to walk around the foot of the Statue of Liberty inaugurated in 1886. The island is also home to outdoor exhibitions and souvenir shops.
Re-boarding the ferry, you will go to Ellis Island, another National Historic Landmark. Ellis Island was the main immigration centre for the United States from 1892 until the Second World War. Today, it houses a unique museum detailing all the different aspects of immigration and its effects on a growing nation. Ellis Island processed more than 12 million immigrants. Today, over 40 percent of Americans can trace some part of their ancestry back to Ellis Island. Many people use the resource room there to research ancestors and the vessels they came in on.
At Ellis Island you will have approximately one hour to explore the museum independently, souvenir shops and visit the cafés with the provided lunch voucher for lunch before boarding the ferry back to Battery Park.

Park visitors must undergo an airport-style security check before boarding ships departing from Battery Park and Liberty State Park. This security check will also take place at the entrance inside the Statue. All items deemed inappropriate or prohibited will be confiscated and retained by the US Park Police. Day 1 - Boston
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
Your day will start with a short transfer to Cambridge. En route, you will discover the Massachusetts Institute of Technology located in the city of Cambridge. The city of Cambridge is separated from Boston by the Charles River. Founded in 1861, MIT educates students in science and technology. A photo stop at the Great Dome will be made, epicentre of the institute which has witnessed the graduations of generations of students and the inaugurations of presidents.
On this very exclusive Harvard Campus tour, a Harvard student will provide you with an inside look at college life in Cambridge throughout this approximately 1.5-hour walking tour of the university. The private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, MA, was established in 1636 and since that time, its history, influence and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It’s listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and it’s a U.S. National Historic Landmark District.

After lunch, board your coach and return to downtown Boston. Your guide will take you for a stroll around the narrow streets and bricked sidewalks of Beacon Hill. From the golden dome of the State House to the elegant homes of Louisburg Square, travel picturesque streets showing stunning examples of early American architecture. Experience Beacon Hill’s ornate past, from its rural beginnings to the vision of the Mount Vernon proprietors, while walking among this historic collection of Federal and Greek Revival row houses.
