Gain a fascinating insight into the life and times of a traditional Louisiana plantation in the days of the ‘Old South’.
Experience a bygone era and savour aristocratic splendour and traditional southern-style comfort. Oak Alley Plantation is one of Louisiana’s most photographed mansions, which has been brought to life in numerous Hollywood movies, including The Long Hot Summer.
The story of Oak Alley begins with their famous avenue of oak trees, which spread a quarter of a mile towards the river from the Greek revival style mansion. Nowhere else in the Mississippi valley will you find such a spectacular setting. Spared during the Civil War, Oak Alley was sold at auction in 1866. A succession of owners followed until 1925, when Andrew and Josephine Stewart bought the plantation home and its surrounding 1,360 acres. The Stewarts began what was to be the first of the Great River Road plantation restorations.
Enjoy a stroll around the mansion and admire its grand design, combining several styles, the most notable being the 28 classic columns surrounding the house and the sprawling veranda, designed to protect its residents from the fierce summer temperatures. Inside, the house has been restored to its 19th century glory, a noble tribute to those who left their indelible mark on this rich river region.

Travel with peace of mind as PONANT organises your day time between your port of disembarkation and the airport.
Miami
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
Depart across the causeway to “South Beach.” Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour of the Art Deco District, an architectural delight featuring more than 800 art deco style buildings within one square mile. The 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which celebrated living in the modern, industrial world, was the foundation of Art Deco. The art and architecture that was developed between the two World Wars, during the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression of the Thirties featured crisp geometric lines and patterns, vibrant colours, simple yet sophisticated shapes that were often streamlined and aerodynamic. You will take a leisurely stroll around the Art Deco District to take in many of these structures that have been restored to their original splendour (the walk is approximately 1 mile in distance and is covered by slow walking and standing for 1 ¼ hours).
Following the walk, transfer to Wynwood. The District is known to home to over 70 Art Galleries, Retail Stores, Antique Shops, Eclectic Bars, and one of the largest open-air Street art installations in the world. You will meet a local artist who will guide you through the Wynwood walls and doors to learn about the artists, the different tools used to create these masterpieces and the metamorphosis of individual walls to the transformation of buildings and local businesses. Although specific murals are constantly changing, the area is filled with murals from international street art superstars, like David Walker and Interesni Kazki.
Then you will proceed a short tour at Little Havana before lunch at the Biltmore hotel (or Similar). Upon arrival, you will enjoy a quick introduction to the hotel, a national and historic landmark, opened in 1926.
Following lunch, glide through the estates of the Gables and into the unique Coconut Grove area known for its artists colonies.
