A world apart
Between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, Baja California invites visitors to explore a world apart, where dunes, reefs and mangroves create a landscape that is both wild and sublime. A true marine sanctuary, this ‘largest aquarium in the world’, according to Captain Cousteau, reveals its greatest secrets in winter: the ballet of the giants of the sea who come here to reproduce.

Combining active exploration and moments of tranquillity
The focus will be on wildlife viewing: unique encounters with grey whales, bottlenose dolphins, majestic mobula rays, as well as impressive blue and humpback whales... Landings with the team of naturalist guides will allow you to visit small, typically Mexican towns steeped in local culture, such as Loreto. A range of activities will be offered to guests, from relaxation to more sporting experiences.

« Designing an itinerary in Baja California was a challenge for me. It's a huge responsibility to promote this exceptional environment, to pass it on to future generations, while proving ourselves worthy of the trust placed in us by the people who live there. What I experienced there cannot be compared to any other experience: it is the powerful feeling of truly being alive, connected with nature — and that is what our guests will discover. »
with local communities
Threatened by overfishing in the 1970s and 1980s, the Sea of Cortez has regained its balance thanks to local communities: former fishermen who have become conservationists initiated the creation of protected areas, giving rise to several national parks. A renewed dialogue between man and nature. By promoting local communities and their resources, PONANT EXPLORATIONS will be part of a partnership based on shared values, placing people and the planet at the heart of their priorities.
Respecting ecosystems
To live up to the trust placed in us by local communities, a biosecurity protocol has been adapted for the area. For example, before any interaction with whales, hands must be washed with disinfectant soap. The sunscreen used during diving or swimming is also environmentally friendly.
