"Congratulations to the captains Étienne Garcia, Patrick Marchesseau and Stanislas Devorsine who have reached the geographic North Pole! A first for France and a true pride for all the PONANT teams. We commit to making this exceptional ship an open platform for all scientists who wish to take advantage of the two laboratories of Le Commandant Charcot as well as all the measurement and analysis equipment made available to them."
A "dry run"
Le Commandant Charcot departed from Longyearbyen on Wednesday, September 1st for a "dry run", the very first sea voyage dedicated to crew training in total immersion in the heart of the Arctic, to begin deploying new activities and testing safety equipment. On board were over a hundred people: collaborators who participated in the project and construction of the ship, technicians for final adjustments, scientists, partners, photographers, institutional representatives, merchant marine students, and more.
Le Commandant Charcot
Thanks to its innovative and environmentally responsible technologies, Le Commandant Charcot, a high polar exploration cruise ship, is able to navigate safely to the most remote regions while respecting ecosystems: propulsion with Liquefied Natural Gas, electric batteries, ice routing software... Designed from the outset as a scientific research vessel, it also features two laboratories and numerous equipment dedicated to polar research.
