In the Arctic, Le Commandant Charcot led the way to the RV Kronprins Haakon, as they were both sailing to the North Pole. The Norwegian oceanographic and polar icebreaker, owned by the Norwegian Polar Institute, was heading to the North Pole as part of her annual scientific expedition to the polar ocean, on a mission to collect environmental samples.

"This cooperation fully illustrates the values of PONANT, a cruise company founded by sailors and committed to science."
This is an example of what can be achieved through teamwork between two ships, but also a unique opportunity for our passengers to see firsthand the challenges faced by science in the polar environment. The chief scientist and the captain of the RV Kronprins Haakon boarded Le Commandant Charcot to present their ship and their scientific mission.
The meeting
The meeting, planned by the two captains, is an opportunity for unprecedented cooperation allowing the capabilities of the two ships to be combined. Le Commandant Charcot once again demonstrated its extraordinary character both in the spirit of solidarity among seafarers and in its exceptional abilities to face ice conditions. This is how it opens a channel for the RV Kronprins Haakon to follow.
