This busy harbour town is located on the edge of Koper bay in the gulf of Trieste in the north of the Slovenian coast. Shaded by Mediterranean trees, the maritime promenade will lead you to the historical district built around the Cathedral of the Assumption. You can climb to the top of the bell-tower of this imposing Romanesque-gothic church to contemplate the coastline and rolling green hillsides. Just nearby, on majestic Tito square, you’ll come across beautiful houses built in Istria sandstone with Venetian style ornaments. A few streets away, the Kope regional museum presents local archaeological, art and craft collections in the elegant Belgramoni-Tacco palace, built in the 17th century. Koper is also a bilingual town, like the other Slovenian coastal towns, and you can converse both in Italian and in Slovenian with the inhabitants.
