Cruises visiting Manaus, Amazonia

Once called the “Paris of the Tropics” due to the prosperity it experienced thanks to the rubber trade, Manaus is fascinating for its immoderation. Situated 1,500 km away from the mouth of the Amazon, this gigantic city with elegant middle-class houses and superb colonial buildings, is also a departure point for exploring the Amazon Rainforest. The surrounding area is famous for offering a surprising sight: the meeting of the dark waters of the Rio Negro and the muddy waters of the Rio Solimoes which run side by side over several kilometres without mixing and then join to form the Amazon.
