This former medieval city is located at the end of a large bay into which the waters of Sardinia’s largest river, the Tirso, flow. This natural lagoon site supports rich biodiversity. On the coast, the Sinis peninsula is a marine protected area. This narrow promontory jutting out into the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean is edged with wild beaches of pink and white quartz. At the far south of the peninsula, in a stunning setting overlooking the sea, stand the vestiges of the Phoenician city of Tharros, constructed on the site of a nuragic village from the Bronze Age.
