Cruises visiting Ostrova Ptich'i, Sakhalin Oblast
Ostrova Ptich’i is a minuscule Sakhalin Oblast island, located to the north of the Kuril Islands, between the tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula and the north of Japan. Composed of basalt, this islet in the volcanic archipelago, a result of the subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the Okhtosk Plate, produces mysterious mineral landscapes, sheer cliffs, as if rising out of the waters, sheltering the wildlife that has taken refuge there. In this unique territory in the heart of the Sea of Okhotsk, you’ll perhaps be able to observe Steller sea lions basking around this uninhabited island, or the ballet of the seabirds surprised during their fishing session.
