Colin Shindler is an emeritus professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London where he lectured to students from all backgrounds and every walk of life.
Author of 18 books, Colin’s latest book, to be published in 2026, is A Forever War which examines the Israel-Palestine conflict. He has authored 800 articles and book reviews which have appeared in journals such as the New York Times, Guardian, History Today, Military History, Jerusalem Post, and the Times Literary Supplement.
Dr. Shindler is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and is regularly asked to comment on current affairs on radio and television, both in the UK and abroad. He has frequently appeared on BBC TV and Radio, Sky, and the international media as an expert commentator on the Middle East.
During the past decade, Colin has spoken to audiences in Sydney, Moscow, Hong Kong, Krakow, Johannesburg, Prague, and Trondheim on a wide range of subjects. As a cruise lecturer on world affairs and on destinations, he has given talks on numerous cruises including the Middle East, the Gulf States, Greece and Turkey, Latin America, the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, and the Baltic.
Colin can make complex subjects accessible to any listener. Formerly a chemistry lecturer, he took early retirement at 50 and devoted himself to his passion for current affairs and history. He went into academia at the age of 52, specialising in the Middle East and became a professor ten years later.
