Turkish tenor Mert Süngü studied drama and opera singing at the T.C. Mimar Sinan Conservatory in Istanbul. He then completed his training at the Scuola dell'Opera Italiana at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and was a member of the Young Ensemble at the Semperoper in Dresden, with which he still maintains a close collaboration.

He has performed as a guest artist at venues including the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the Opéra de Lyon, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the Stuttgart Opera and the Semperoper in Dresden. He has collaborated with conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Christian Thielemann, Michele Mariotti and Marc Minkowski.

His recent roles include the title role in Roberto Devereux, Leicester in Elisabetta regina d'Inghilterra, Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Alfredo (La Traviata), Mephistopheles in Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel, and Pollione (Norma). For the Decca label, he has recorded Schubert lieder with guitarist Eugenio Della Chiara. His extensive repertoire ranges from Meyerbeer, Bizet, Donizetti and Rossini to Mozart, Gluck and Handel.
