Nicholas Bill

Dr. Nicholas (Nilo) Bill is a paleoclimatologist whose interest in earth science began with a simple question: Is human-induced climate change distinguishable from natural climate fluctuations? Paleoclimatology, the study of Earth’s past climates, draws on geology, climatology, atmospheric science, oceanography, and hydrology. Nilo has spent his career integrating these disciplines through field-based research and teaching. He earned a PhD in paleoclimatology from Oregon State University and later became a professor of earth sciences at Quest University in British Columbia. His fieldwork has taken him to Iceland, where he lived for a year as a National Geographic Explorer, as well as to the Dry Valleys of Antarctica and the interior of Alaska. He has taught immersive field courses on reef systems in Barbados and on tectonics on Vancouver Island. Nilo is the recipient of the Antarctica Service Medal and the Geological Society of America’s Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award. His work has been published in scientific journals and textbooks, focusing on glaciers, tectonics, and long-term climate dynamics.
