IUCN
A congress to gather around the protection of nature.
Organized every four years, the IUCN World Conservation Congress brings together numerous leaders and decision-makers from governments, civil society, indigenous peoples, businesses, and academia. Its objective is to unite and mobilize participants to address the environmental challenges facing our planet. Strong decisions on nature conservation and sustainable development are expected at the conclusion of this 26th Congress.
Preserve biodiversity
A priority for PONANT since its creation.
The choice of Marseille to host the event has a special significance for PONANT: it is where the company's headquarters are located, and for over thirty years, it has been inviting its passengers to discover the treasures of the earth by sea and to respect them. Similarly, the core values of the event, respect and preservation of the environment, are an integral part of PONANT's purpose and its Foundation.
Hervé Gastinel
"Beyond the responsible practice of our profession and our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism, we wish to further invest in several themes that are close to our hearts: preserving the oceans and the poles, and promoting exchanges between peoples."

The NGO NABU, a reference in ecology in Europe, has ranked PONANT at the top of its 2020 ranking of the most environmentally friendly cruise companies. On board, a controlled and responsible consumption has been implemented thanks in particular to the elimination of single-use plastics, sourcing from short supply chains, as well as desalination and wastewater treatment. PONANT has also undertaken major initiatives in terms of fuel consumption: • Limitation of average speed. • Possibility of shore power connections. • Abandonment of heavy fuel oil since January 1, 2019.
