Come aboard Le Boréal for an unforgettable voyage.
Far off the coast of Portugal, Madeira and the Azores reveal their volcanic landscapes, edged with unique vegetation. The call of the great outdoors resonates in this green kaleidoscope. Vertiginous cliffs, calderas shrouded in mist and levadas (irrigation channels) winding their way through the mountains invite visitors to go hiking. In the small towns, time stretches slowly to make way for leisurely strolls and historical discovery, like on the islands of Porto Santo or Santa Maria, marked by the passage of Christopher Columbus.
In the balm of July, - the best period to discover these shores -, don’t miss your chance to visit the colourful market of Funchal or the Manueline-style elegant archways of Ponta Delgada, two ports of call with an overnight stay to let you fully immerse yourself in the surroundings, between adventure and lifestyle. And to extend the magic, why not treat yourself to a second break, entirely dedicated to discovering the Azores?

22 Jul 27 > 23 Jul 27 - Ponta Delgada, Azores
The coastal city of Ponta Delgada stands on the southern coastline of São Miguel Island, in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. On your way to the town centre from the port, youメll pass through the Doors to the Sea, a contemporary architectural complex bordering the Atlantic. The historic district features a beautiful square framed by the three Baroque arches of the City Gates. A few steps from the shore youメll find the Gothic church of São Sebastião and the Renaissance fortress, Fortaleza de São Brásainsi.

Arrival 24/07/27 early morning Departure 24/07/27 late afternoon
24 Jul 27 - Vila do Porto, Azores
The town of Vila do Porto has managed to retain vestiges of its history on certain houses that have ogive-shaped doors and Manueline-style windows. Some of its streets still bear the memories of its past grandeur with palaces, doors and portals to admire. Here you’ll discover the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, one of the island’s oldest churches, which has a large, 17th-century, sculpted wooden altarpiece in its upper choir. Our Lady of Victoria - a convent and church - built in 1607, destroyed by pirates in 1616, rebuilt in 1725 and modified for the last time in 1822 is also well worth a visit.

Arrival 25/07/27 Departure 25/07/27
25 Jul 27 - At sea
During your journey at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This journey without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, depending on the activities offered, or to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.

Arrival 26/07/27 midday Departure 26/07/27 late afternoon
26 Jul 27 - Porto Santo Island, Madeira
Porto Santo Island is a Portuguese island situated fifty kilometres northeast of Madeira Island in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the most beautiful, peace and quiet islands in Europe, and its long sandy beaches and ochre-yellow coloured soil earned it the name of “Golden Island”. Due to these various shades of brown and yellow, Porto Santo has a beauty of its own and is very different to Madeira. The island was discovered by the Portuguese in 1418 who appreciated its sheltered anchorage. Christopher Columbus the famous explorer lived on Porto Santo for a while.

Arrival 27/07/27 Departure 28/07/27 midday
27 Jul 27 > 28 Jul 27 - Funchal, Madeira
This attractive capital of Madeira is located on the southern coast of the island. The walkways of the old town are lined with azulejos, or multi-coloured mosaics. If you follow these patterns, they’ll lead you to the appetising Mercado dos Lavradores market stands, the Frederico de Freitas museum, and the golden panelling of the Cathedral de la Sé. Along the waterfront, the palm tree-shaded promenade leads you to the teleféricos de Monte, Madeira's cable cars. Its panoramic cabins transport you over the city to top of Monte, where you can see the picturesque botanical garden.

Discover the green island (2 nights)

Enhance your cruise and extend your trip with a carefully designed programme.
Day 1 - Ponta Delgada (Sao Miguel Island)
Meet at Ponta Delgada Airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
You will be transferred to the Octant Hotel Ponta Delgada 5*.
Check-in.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner is on your own.
Day 2 - Ponta Delgada/Sete Cidades
Departure in 4X4 from the hotel towards the western part of the island, driving on the mountain road and passing via the Pico do Carvão viewpoint.
A short stop to admire the view over the narrowest part of the island. This landscape was formed millions of years ago by the eruption of 290 small volcanoes. The journey goes on to Mata do Canário forest park to take the trail up to one of the most impressive viewpoints over Sete Cidades crater, which is home to the lake and the small village. A scenic drive along the crater rim and then on to the village of Sete Cidades, which paints a real portrait of the island's contemporary rural way of life.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
The next drive is to the protected geosite of Ponta da Ferraria, located on the coastline. This is a fajã, a unique phenomenon called a pseudocrater, which can be found in very few places around the world apart from the Azores. It is very popular among the locals for its natural pool, in which thermal water merges with the ocean, creating a bathing site with therapeutic water springs that has been used since the fifteenth century. Here you can relax with a bath or a guided meditation before heading back to the hotel in Ponta Delgada.
Return to the hotel. End of the day and dinner are at leisure.
Day 3 - Ponta Delgada/Furnas
After breakfast and check-out, you will leave the hotel in the morning to explore the Furnas Valley, which is famous for its hot springs and thermal baths that make it one of the world's biggest geothermal sites.
First, you will be taken to Ribeira Grande. This lovely town reveals a play on colours that stretches between the white masonry and basalt and ignimbrite stonework. This contrast is visible in churches, such as the Nossa Senhora da Estrela, with its monumental staircase and singular black bell tower. Enjoy a short visit to the charming historic centre, whose narrow streets and municipal garden are lined with fine examples of urban architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. You will then continue your drive, to the tea plantations, the only commercial ones in Europe.
Continue to the tea plantations, the only commercial ones in Europe. After visiting the factory and tasting a sample of the local produce, you will drive to Lagoa das Furnas. The locals cook the typical Cozido das Caldeiras, a mixed meat and vegetable stew, using the volcanic heat here. This delicacy will be your lunch!
In the afternoon, you will visit Terra Nostra Garden, an iconic place on Sao Miguel whose origins date back to 1775 when Thomas Hickling, the US Consul at the time, decided to create his summer residence. Since the 19th century, the garden has undergone several developments carried out by its successive owners. Today it is home to more than 2,000 different trees and plants from all over the world.
Then, you will then be transferred to the pier of Ponta Delgada to embark on board your ship.
