Come aboard Le Paul Gauguin for an unforgettable voyage.

Leaving from Papeete, PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises offers you a 16-day cruise to discover four beautiful archipelagos of the South Seas. You will be captivated by the resolutely Polynesian ambiance that prevails aboard the Paul Gauguin: a ship with a relaxed and international atmosphere, especially designed for sailing in these shallow turquoise waters.

In the Society Islands, in French Polynesia, you will be dazzled by the incomparable beauty of the sumptuous lagoons of Bora Bora, with its distinctly recognisable volcanic silhouette, by the turquoise waters of the motu Mahana, our private vanilla-scented little paradise, and by Moorea, with its hillside pineapple plantations and its verdant peaks overlooking the island.

You will sail towards the Cook Islands and the incredibly clear waters of the Aitutaki lagoon.

The Paul Gauguin will then set sail for the Kingdom of Tonga. Consisting of around 30 picture-postcard islets, Vava’u is an idyllic and pristine destination for exploring the wonderful seabed, sunbathing on the fine sandy beaches edged with coconut trees and discovering the local crafts and traditions.

You will finally discover authentic villages, hillsides covered in dense tropical vegetation and the sumptuous lagoons of the islands of Fiji.

21 Jan 27 - Crossing the International Date Line

Your itinerary enables you to cross the International Date Line. This imaginary line across the Earth’s surface approximately follows the 180th meridian in the Pacific Ocean. Because of the roundness of the Earth and the necessity of having reference time meridians, we have to change dates when we cross this line. So if your ship is travelling west, you will need to add a day to the expected date; conversely, if travelling east, you will take away a day. This paradox, already noted by Magellan’s crews during his circumnavigation, serves as dramatic motivation in several novels, including Jules Verne’s famous Around the World in Eighty Days.

Vava’u is a splendid archipelago in Tonga made up of around forty picture-postcard coral islands scattered across the turquoise waters of the south Pacific Ocean. The main island is dominated by Mount Talau which offers a magnificent panoramic view over the islands. Along the long fine sandy beaches of these idyllic islets, the teeming marine life can be seen in the coral reefs, the gorgonian coral gardens and the underwater caves. The lush vegetation of the island will delight amateur botanists. The traditional local know-how reveals all the richness of this incredible natural heritage: woven leaves from the legendary pandanus, production of Noni juice with its many virtues, extraction of vanilla essence.

During demonstrations, they invite us to watch these ceremonies where barefooted men, prepared and dressed for the occasion in traditional costume, walk over red-hot coals. Legend says that they also have the power to heal burns. The coral reef so close to the beach is the promise of unforgettable underwater excursions. Further out to sea, the sumptuous seabeds are reputed to be home to many species of sharks.

RELAXING DAY IN FIJI ISLANDS
Details

PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises converts your transfer into a restful stopover as you enjoy a relaxing day in a pleasant and comfortable setting.

Lautoka

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative. You will depart the pier by coach for a panoramic tour of Lautoka.

You will visit the largest Hindu Temple of the island. During British colonial rule in Fiji, many Indian migrants came to work on sugar cane plantations. They arrived with a contract of employment from the British government. At the end of their contract, many of them choose to settle in Fiji and brought with them the Hindu culture and religion.

In 1984, eight artists from India were invited to participate in the construction of this huge complex of temples. Take the time to admire the pyramidal shape of the various buildings, all characterized by a staircase architecture and fine sculptures of deities, kings and knights.

Continue to the Sleeping Giant garden, a horticultural garden specialized in native plants from Fiji with a very impressive collection of orchids. There are over 2000 listed orchid species. The Sleeping Giant is a mountain range that can be seen from Nadi. It has this name (sleeping giant), because the ridge line represents the profile of a lying man.

Your sightseeing tour will end at the hotel Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa 5*.
