Frequently asked questions about Paul Gauguin from PONANT EXPLORATIONS Paul Gauguin

Le Paul Gauguin can accommodate a maximum of 330 guests. The 165 staterooms and suites are spread across five decks.

Le Paul Gauguin sails the South Pacific all year round. She offers itineraries of 7 to 20 nights to the various archipelagos of French Polynesia — the Society Islands, the Tuamotus and the Marquesas — as well as Fiji, Tonga, the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

With more than 25 years of year-round operations in Polynesia, le Paul Gauguin is a leading ship for the destination. Strong ties have been forged with local communities, who offer guests a warm welcome. The ship’s shallow draft allows her to get closer to atolls and lagoons. .

The atmosphere on board is relaxed and friendly, and guests come from all over the world. A team of Polynesian hosts, the Gauguins and Gauguines, share the essence of their culture through demonstrations and hands-on workshops, including traditional dances and songs, pareo-making and plant weaving, and more.

Excursions can be booked through the excursions office with a wide range of options, including glass-bottom boat trips on the lagoon, exploring the islands by 4x4 or electric bike, visits to pearl farms, and encounters with rays and sharks.

From the beach, guests can go snorkelling to admire the underwater flora and fauna. Scuba diving is available at a number of sites for both experienced divers and beginners and can be booked on board.

Guests aboard le Paul Gauguin can enjoy the following facilities:

  • three restaurants, including a grill on the pool deck,

  • two lounges with bars and a piano bar,

  • a library,

  • an outdoor pool and a sun deck with bar on the upper deck,

  • a wellness area (spa and fitness room),

  • the Fare Tahiti digital museum dedicated to the cultures of the Pacific,

  • a boutique offering a selection of Polynesian souvenirs, jewellery and ready-to-wear clothing.

Le Paul Gauguin is ideal for family holidays; children aged one and over are welcome on board. Several staterooms are connecting and/or feature a third berth.

On selected departures, the Moana Explorer programme offers fun activities for young guests aged seven to fifteen. In partnership with the Te mana o te moana Foundation, the activity leaders introduce children to the environment and culture of the South Pacific archipelagos through stories and legends, coral reef and stargazing activities, workshops, and treasure hunts.

A doctor and nurse are available on board to deal with initial medical emergencies, and the ship is equipped with a medical facility for minor surgery.

However, guests whose health requires special precautions should be aware of the remote nature of some of the regions visited and the lack of specialised medical facilities there. These guests are advised to consult their doctor before considering travelling.
